Make art and teach it, too.
The visual arts education program at Anderson University is a combined studio art degree and education degree. The studio component provides you with the opportunity to develop both skills and concepts that lead to your own focused portfolio of artwork. This concludes with an exhibition and written paper through the senior projects course. The education component provides you with opportunities to develop your skills and practices as a teacher. It culminates with a semester of student teaching.
The studio component includes a variety of studio courses at the introductory and intermediate level in an effort to develop your breadth of knowledge within the media disciplines. We encourage independent study coursework, as it’s an opportunity for you to develop skill practices and conceptual frameworks tailored to your particular interests in art.
In the art education program, students take art methodology courses in conjunction with general education coursework. The methods courses provide field experiences while the general courses explore pedagogy and theories in education.
