Etching Workshop Teacher
Seattle's Sev Shoon Art Center
Betsy Barnum was born in San Francisco in 1982. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude with honors in art, with a focus in graphic design, from Anderson University in 2004. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2006.
Barnum has shown her mixed media paintings, etchings, and artist books widely throughout the U.S. and Canada, including recent solo exhibitions in Seattle; Oklahoma City; and Pemberton, British Columbia, Canada. She currently teaches etching workshops at Seattle's Sev Shoon Art Center and works a day job in the real estate industry.
As an Art+Design major at Anderson University, she benefited most from AU's rigorous written self-examination and verbal critiques. Experienced and supportive staff at AU created an environment conducive to her development as an artist and a person. These two elements provided the confidence and basic business skills she needed to succeed in the art world.
