ACI Absence Policy
In the rare instance that your ACI is absent from your clinical assignment and you are unaware of their whereabouts you should use the following guidelines:
- Try to contact the ACI to determine where they are and when they will be returning to the clinical site.
- If they are not going to return to your clinical site within 15 minutes or you are still unable to reach them after waiting 15 minutes, you should contact your coach and let them know that there will not be any athletic training coverage of the practice/game because the ACI is not available. You can leave water for the team if needed.
- After waiting 15 minutes, you are allowed to leave the clinical site for the day. Please call or leave a note for your ACI telling them that you have left because they were not available to supervise you.
- If you are in a place where other ATCs are present and able to supervise you, ask them if they will be able to do so until your ACI returns to that site. There may be some times when they may be present but unable to supervise. Please ask them before assuming they will act as your ACI.
- You are only able to do treatments, injury assessments, or other athletic training duties when supervised by an ATC. If you are by yourself, you are NOT allowed to perform athletic training duties on athletes. This is true even if your ACI is gone but “will be right there”.
If at any time you feel like ACI absence is becoming a problem or inhibiting your learning experience, please contact the ATEP Program Director and make them aware of the situation.
