Katie Hooten

Assistant Production Manager, Walt Disney Feature Animation

Bachelor of Arts, Theatre Studies Secondary Education major

"Quit watching yourself.” This was a critique heard quite a bit in my acting class at AU. It was Professor Ronn Johnstone’s way of telling me not to be so concerned with myself, but rather commit to the action needed to convey the meaning of the scene. This has served as a profound metaphor for me as I’ve pursued a career in the film industry. As an Assistant Production Manager at Disney Feature Animation and as a freelance producer, I have referred many times to the guidance and life lessons learned at AU. My professors taught me about being a person of integrity and the importance of taking initiative. I learned that talent alone is not enough to pursue a dream. Sometimes, as one of my greatest mentors used to say, "you gotta get in line and stay in line." Building a career in this field is a challenge that must be met with energy, action, flexibility and faith. I am so thankful for AU and the mentors who continue to support my journey of serving a creative and dynamic God.
