I chose to study public relations at Anderson University because it was a field in which I felt I could have the most impact with my particular skills. As a person who enjoys working with people, it was natural for me to choose a field in which the overall goal is pursuing mutually beneficial relationships between a public and an organization. Marketing was an easy selection for a minor, as most PR and marketing endeavors fall under the same umbrella in an organization.
AU was the right choice for me. I knew at AU I would be surrounded with a Christian atmosphere in which I could grow academically and spiritually. The biggest difference I found between AU and other colleges was that professors genuinely cared for students. This was true for me throughout my time at Anderson University and beyond.
Because AU is a smaller school, the Communication department feels more like an extended family. You get to know your professors personally and connect with them in a way you never would at a larger school. In addition, you take the majority of your core classes with the same group of peers, which allows you establish long-lasting friendships.
Prof. Rebecca Fuller-Beeler taught the majority of my PR classes. Her experience in the field helped me relate to the material and kept the classes relevant and engaging. Although Fifth Street Communications™ was one of the most demanding classes I took, it was the most beneficial in preparing me for my career in communications.
I am currently working as a marketing analyst at Moorehead Communications, the parent company of The Cellular Connection, The nation’s largest Verizon Premium Wireless Retailer. My main responsibility is coordinating the grand openings of our Cellular Connection stores. I also assist in all marketing campaigns at our 600-plus locations in 26 states.
