Darrell Andrew Hlad Miller

2001 Graduate of Harvard Law School

Attorney in Columbus, Ohio

Bachelor of Arts, English major

The personal interaction I had with my professors was by far the greatest benefit of studying English at Anderson University. Beginning in my freshman year and continuing through graduation and beyond, my professors have been more than willing to sit down and talk about literature, extracurricular activities, studying abroad and post-graduate opportunities. When it came time to apply to graduate school, I believe I had somewhat of an edge over other applicants because the professors who wrote my recommendations knew me not only as a student but as a person.

Some Highlights

  • Six faculty members have been published in academic journals, anthologies, and popular magazines.
  • The department offers a writing major—something that is rarely found among smaller, Christian universities.
  • Professor Kevin Radaker, chair of the department, presents a dramatic portrayal of Henry David Thoreau throughout the United States.
  • The department sponsors annual creative writing contests and a student-staffed, semi-annual literary arts magazine.
  • In addition to teaching, our graduates have excelled in careers as varied as technical writing, freelance editing, journalism, law, ministry, public relations, book sales, cartooning and songwriting.

Unique Opportunities

Four faculty members have led Tri-S educational trips to England and other parts of Europe focusing on destinations of literary importance.
