AU School of Music Offers New Dance Majors
The School of Music at Anderson University is now offering three majors in dance. The majors are:
- Dance Performance
- Dance Business (with tracks in business administration and non-profit business)
- Complementary Major in Dance (to be combined with a second major)
The university’s new state-of-the-art dance studio, performance space at Reardon Auditorium, and close proximity to Indianapolis make it the ideal facility in which to study, experience, and excel in dance.
Dance technique courses include four levels of ballet, modern, jazz and tap as well as musical theatre dance forms and world dance forms. Theoretical courses include dance history survey, period dance, dance improvisation, and composition.
The Falls School of Business has partnered with the School of Music to offer the 51 hour Dance Business major to include dance technique and dance theory classes, in addition to marketing, management, and accounting classes. Within the Dance Business major, students will have the option of two tracks: non-profit business and business administration. Students must also complete an internship before graduation.
Dance courses are taught by some of the finest professionals in the field, and students perform in two major dance events each year (Fall Into Dance and Spring Into Dance) as well as in Candles and Carols, our School of Music Christmas Concert that is broadcast internationally. Dancers may also choose to audition for the musical theatre and opera productions through the Lyric Opera Department.

The Dance Department hires a guest choreographer every year, allowing students the chance to experience dance forms from across the U.S. and the globe. Guest artists hosted by the AU dance program include professional companies from Michigan, San Diego, New York, and Chicago.
