Laurel Goetzinger

Laurel Goetzinger, a singer, actor and director first began working with classical improvisation with Ann Baltz in 2007. Ms. Goetzinger has directed opera, musical theatre and plays in professional and university worlds as well as performing professionally in these genres plus concert and recital in the U.S. and Britain. Her professional directing credits include Don Giovanni with the Indianapolis Opera Ensemble, The Magic Flute with the Lafayette and Battle Creek Symphonies, The Gifts of the Magi at the Indiana Repertory Theatre, and The Sound of Music at the Bay View Summer Music Festival. She is presently the Artistic and Stage Director of The Boze Lyric Theatre at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind., where she has most recently directed Massenet’s Cendrillon, Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, Sondheim’s Into The Woods, and Schwartz’s Children of Eden among many others. The Boze Lyric Theatre also presented the undergraduate world premiere of Mark Adamo’s popular opera Little Women, and has been honored with invited performances at the National Opera Association and American College Theatre Festival conventions.

Singing repertoire from both soprano and lyric mezzo literature, favorite opera roles include Nicklauss/Muse in Tales of Hoffman, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, and many of the "ina" roles — Rosina, Despina, Zerlina, and the infamous Princess Angelina — in The Ring of the Fettuccines (CBS Kraft Music Hall) with New York companies including The Broque Opera, Tri-Cities Opera and American Opera Theatre. Her musical theatre credits include Julie Jordan in Carousel, Laurey Williams in Oklahoma, Maria and Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music and Rosabella in Most Happy Fella performed at theatres including Music Under The Stars in Milwaukee, the Muny Opera in St. Louis, and Chautauqua Music Institute in Chautauqua, N.Y. In Indiana, Ms. Goetzinger has performed with the Indianapolis Opera, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre and at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. As a recitalist, she has performed in Chicago, St. Louis, San Diego and London as well as at universities in the Midwest.

Ms. Goetzinger received her Bachelors degree from Illinois State University in Music and Theatre, and her Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois in Vocal Performance and Opera. She has taught at the university level at Miami University (Ohio), DePauw University, Butler University, and S.U.N.Y. Fredonia. Presently she is the Director of the Boze Lyric Theatre and teaches Voice at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana.
