Welcome to the Anderson University School of Nursing Web site.  Nursing is the nation’s largest healthcare profession with more than 2.9 million registered nurses practicing nationwide, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Additionally, many more nurses are needed in the future to meet the growing demand for nursing care. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for registered nurses will grow faster than most other occupations through 2014, while the shortage of registered nurses will continue to grow throughout the next 20 years.  By 2020, more than 800,000 positions are expected to go unfilled nationwide, according to the National Center for Workforce Analysis.

Our graduates find positions locally, nationally, and internationally and are employed in hospitals, private practices, public health agencies, primary care clinics, home health care, outpatient centers, nursing homes, schools, mental health agencies, hospices, the military and many industries.

This is an exciting time at Anderson University School of Nursing.  Our faculty and staff work daily to provide students with a Christ-centered community of learning that prepares both the students in the Bachelor of Science (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs in an evidenced-based approach to patient care. The Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is the preferred first step in your career as a professional nurse who will be a skilled provider, designer, manager, and coordinator of patient care in a variety of practice settings.  The Master of Science in Nursing offers a unique graduate program, combining the skills of nursing with those of business and leading to two separate degrees, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). This three-year program is designed to meet the needs of working adults with most classes meeting one night per week.  Two new MSN program opportunities will be available to students in the fall of 2010 in nursing education and administration.

Our goal is to be a premier teaching university, with a Christian perspective integrated into its programs and the relationships between students, faculty and staff. At Anderson University, the average student/faculty ratio is 15:1, and in the nursing major the ratio is 11.5/1. These class sizes allow students to have small clinical groups and individualized instruction while in the clinical settings—a necessary component for developing a strong clinical practitioner.  By integrating the concept of Christian service in all of our instruction, graduates learn how to care for the spiritual needs of their clients.

We offer innovative approaches to nursing education including clinical simulation with interactive mannequins in our newly renovated patient care skill and computer laboratory which allows you, the student, to practice nursing skills in a safe environment and understand the complicated clinical information systems utilized in today’s healthcare system to ensure patient safety.

Global education is also an important component of both the BSN and MSN programs, with a required intercultural experience integrated in the curriculums. Students have the opportunity to travel, at a reduced rate, to faraway places providing nursing care to the citizens of that community.

We are proud of our reputation for preparing well qualified professional nurses who are employed in a variety of practice settings.  It is my pleasure to assist you in your nursing educational journey. I encourage you to explore this Web site and our programs.

Watch for our new Associate Degree to Bachelor of Science completion program offering beginning fall of 2010!
