Denise Thompson

Denise earned her MSN and MBA degrees from Anderson University, as well as her BSN degree. She also earned a BS in Business Administration from Ball State University and a BA in Psychology from University of Indianapolis. She worked 6 years in a psychiatric/chemical dependency hospital in both patient care and administrative roles. She has been an Emergency Department RN since graduating from AU in 1997. In addition to her faculty position at AU, Denise regularly works at St Vincent Carmel Hospital in the Emergency Department which was awarded "Emergency Center of Excellence" national distinction. She strongly believes maintaining her clinical competence outside the classroom is an asset to the student learning environment within the classroom. She frequently shares situations from the ED to educate and entertain the students. Denise maintains several certifications related to emergency nursing and is a member of Emergency Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.

Denise’s professional experiences are utilized in the mental health and medical surgical portions of the BSN program. She serves as the Faculty Advisor to Upsilon Gamma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. Although she believes she experiences the "best of many worlds" professionally, Denise considers her position of ‘Mother’ the most gratifying and rewarding.
