Junior year - high school
Take
the SAT and/or ACT. (AU requires the optional writing component.) Those
who have already taken the tests should talk to their high school
guidance counselor about their test scores and prospective colleges.
Consult scholarship directories and college search software.
Visit campuses and request information from admissions information.
Take
an in-depth look at your "choice" colleges — visit classes; talk to
profs, deans, and coaches; chat with students; and spend a night or two
on campus.
If you haven’t done so already, take the SAT or ACT
(AU requires the optional writing component), or take it again to
improve test scores.
Get to know your admissions counselor. He or she may be an important resource during your college search.
Begin to narrow your list of prospective colleges.
Ask teachers, counselors, pastors, or employers to fill out admissions recommendation forms found in application packets.
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 10 and turn in high school transcripts and admission applications to AU by May 1 for priority consideration.
After
receiving acceptance letters, students should make their selection and
meet deadlines for scholarships, registration, and payment.
Summer before entering college
Students accepted to AU should attend one of the university’s SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration) weekends in anticipation of their freshman year.
