Based on Arthur Miller’s impassioned parable of witchcraft and intrigue in colonial Salem, Robert Ward’s opera is a story of good and evil in which bigoted men and women use the cry of “witch” to destroy those they hate or envy. Premiered in 1961, the work won both the Pulitzer Prize and the New York Critics Circle Citation. This beautiful and compelling drama has been one of the few American operas to gain a permanent foothold in the operatic repertoire.
Admission: $12 for adults; $10 for senior and military; $5 for students (Sunday matinee: AU students free with non-perishable food item)
