Steve Risinger, M.A., ATC, LAT, (sdrisinger@anderson.edu)Steve is Director of Sports Medicine, Head Athletic Trainer, and Professor of Kinesiology, is a graduate of Anderson University and received his Master of Arts degree from Ball State University. He worked as a student athletic trainer for the Kansas City Chiefs and has worked with the Chicago Bears from 1984-1991. He is the former president of the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association, and was selected the IATA college and university athletic trainer of the year in 1988. In addition, he was inducted to the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame in 1996. He was a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association Certification Committee (1980-1987), member of the NATA Board of Certification and local co-chairman of the NATA National Convention in Indianapolis for 1990 and 1995. He was chairman of the GLATA District Meeting Committee in 1982, 1988, 1990, and 1997. He is a member of the Indiana State Medical Association Commission on Sports Medicine and is the president of the Indiana Athletic Trainer State Licensure Board. In 1999 he was presented the Distinguished Hoosier Award for his service to the state of Indiana in athletic training. Prof. Risinger has taught at Anderson University since 1976.


Jennifer Popp, EdD, ATC, LAT, CSCS (jkpopp@anderson.edu)Jennifer is Director of Athletic Training Education, Associate Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Kinesiology, is a graduate of Western Illinois and received her Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin--LaCrosse. Jennifer is a state and national Athletic Training Scholar winner, most recently being awarded the IATA Graduate Scholarship in 2003. She earned her Ph.D from Ball State University in 2004. Popp joined the AU staff in 1997.


Dorice Hankemeier, MSEd, ATC, LAT (dahankemeier@anderson.edu)Dorice is a Assistant Athletic Trainer and Instructor within the Department of Kinesiology since 2003. She is a graduate of Central College in Iowa and received her Master of Science Education degree from Old Dominion University where she specialized in Athletic Training Education. She received the Sears Director Cup Post Graduate Scholarship. Ms. Hankemeier joined the AU staff in 2003.


Mandy Bush, ATC, LAT(mkbush@anderson.edu) Mandy is an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Clinical Instructor within the Department of Kinesiology. Bush earned her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Anderson University and her master's degree from the University of Kansas. Mrs. Bush joined the AU staff in 2006.


Dr. Jared Jones, M.D., Team Physician and Medical Doctor Dr. Jones serves as the team physician for all Anderson University intercollegiate sports and is an instructor within the Athletic Training Curriculum. Jones earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from Manchester College in 1981 before going to Indiana University School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1989. He did his residency at Ball Memorial Hospital in Internal Medicine, graduating in 1992 and then pursuing a Sports Medicine Fellowship, Primary Care Sports Medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital. Jones is currently practicing at Central Indiana Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Anderson. His experience includes medical coverage for US National Track and Field Championships, PKC Indiana State Kickboxing Championships, NCAA Div. I Swimming and Diving Championships and other professional, semi-pro and college-level sporting events.


Dr. Nimue Surtani, Team Ortopedic Surgeon Dr. Surtani is the Team Orthopedic Surgeon and teaches within the Athletic Training Curriculum. He earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from Southern Methodist University in 1986 before attending the University of Texas at San Antonio School of Medicine, graduating in 1991. He performed residency and internship at the Indiana University School of Medicine and then pursued a fellowship at the Center for Athletic Medicine in Chicago. Surtani is currently practicing at Central Indiana Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Anderson, specializing in knee and shoulder surgeries. His experiences include Assistant Physician for the Indianapolis Ice, Indianapolis Indians, NFL Rookie Combine and an Assistant Team Physician at Chicago State University.


Dr. Joe Jerman, Team Ortopedic Surgeon Dr. Jerman is the Team Orthopedic Surgeon and teaches within the AU Athletic Training Curriculum. He earned his bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Psychology from Indiana University in 1993 before graduating from IU School of Medicine in 1997. Jerman is currently practicing at Central Indiana Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Anderson. His experiences include Assistant Team Physician for the Indianapolis Indians, the NFL Rookie Combine and examining physician for the Compensation and Pension Clinic VA hospital and orthopedic representative to the House Staff Affairs Committee.

Anderson University's athletic training program works with medical consultants in the specialties of Dentistry, Podiatry, Orthopedics, Optometry, and Neurology, along with a variety of affiliated and allied health care facilities.
