Tom Slyder - Head Coach

Tom Slyder begins his seventh season as the head coach of the Anderson University men's basketball program in 2011-12.

Over his first six seasons, the Ravens have compiled a 88-73 overall record, including the 2009-10 HCAC Championship.

The 2009-10 team became the first Raven squad to advance to the NCAA Div. III National Tournament, where they defeated No. 6 St. Thomas, Minn., before falling in the second round at Carthage.

It was also the first conference championship for AU since the 1981-82 season and Slyder was named HCAC and Mideast Region Coach of the Year after leading the Ravens to a 23-6 record.

Slyder was named the 16th men's basketball head coach in school history on May 23, 2005.

He was a four-year letter-winner for the Ravens from 1984-1988, and was named MVP as a senior during the 1987-88 season. He shot 60 percent (33-55) from three-point range in the 1986-87 season and holds the single-season record with 68 steals. He also ranks second on the career steal list with 188. Slyder finished with 929 career points and 380 assists, which ranks eighth on the career list.

Slyder earned his bachelor’s degree from Anderson in 1988, and his master’s from Ball State .

In addition to Slyder's role as an assistant coach at Anderson, he worked in the sales area for HP Products from 1997-2002. He was hired as the General Manager for the flooring division at Preferred, Inc. in July of 2002, a company that specializes in the installation of industrial-type flooring.

A native of Ansonia, Ohio, Slyder and his wife, Kathy, a 1989 AU grad and former Raven volleyball player, have three children: Taylor, Mallory and Allie.
