AU-East Africa Trips
"East Africa has profoundly impacted my life. I traveled to Uganda for the first time about a year and a half ago. Prior to this trip, my involvement in Acting on AIDS began to open my eyes and heart to see and experience the devastation that this pandemic has brought to our world. Naturally, when I was asked to go to Uganda to work with TAPP (Tumaini AIDS Prevention Program), I immediately agreed. All of the statistics, pictures, and stories could not have begun to adequately prepare me for the passion that this trip would evoke in my soul. Working with TAPP made me feel alive. Tumaini is a Swahili word that means "hope", and TAPP beautifully embodies this word to me. Having the opportunity to work with TAPP and AU-EA "back home" in Anderson has allowed me to remain connected to these people in an incredibly meaningful way. I hope to share this passion with you. This trip was designed as a Freshman and Sophomore experience, to introduce the initiative in a very personal way to underclassmen and to further empower them to impact the wider AU community."–Sally Berger, Acting on AIDS Student Coordinator 2006-08, AU-EA Steering Committee 2006-Present
