May Trip FAQ

  • Who is this trip for and why?
This trip is for freshmen and sophomores only; the vision behind this is two-fold. First of all, we hope that this is a bonding experience for students to be able to learn and grow with people who are their same age. There is value in having students of all ages on a trip, but there is also something meaningful about sharing an experience with people you will be surrounded by for another couple of years. Additionally, it is our heart that Anderson University will have student leaders emerge and invest in the AU-East Africa initiative. While many students wait until their junior or senior year for such experiences, we want to provide students with the experiences and resources to get plugged in now.
  • Where will this trip go?
"The trip this year will once again go to Tanzania, East Africa. We will spend half of our time in Sanya Juu which is located at the foot of  Mt. Kilimanjaro. There we will be connecting with the people of this region through home visits as well as spending time with the staff and children of Sanya Juu Primary School.  The second half of the trip will be spent in Maakat, which is located north of the Ngorogoro Crater. This area is the home of the Maasai tribe, and we will be spending time experiencing a way of life few have seen. We will also be connecting with the staff and children of Maakat Primary School.  The Sprunger family, along with AU students from Tanzania have planned this trip. Mr. Sprunger has spent many years serving in Tanzania. The wisdom and experience he and the Tanzanian students bring is an invaluable piece of this trip."
