The mission of the Anderson University School of Theology is to educate at the graduate professional level both men and women for Christian ministry. To this end, we are committed to being a community of scholars who are church-related, and in whose character and servanthood the following are vitally linked: biblical faith, academic integrity, Christian spirituality, love for persons; and a responsible relation with the created order and all humankind.

Certification in Aging Ministries

The purpose of the Certification in Aging Ministries, offered by the Center for Christian Leadership, is to provide a place where church leaders can receive training in how to lead a proactive, developmental ministry to and with older adults. This non-academic credit certification focuses on how people involved in aging ministries through the local church can develop quality programming that seeks to add life to senior years and view seniors as individuals who can significantly add to the ongoing ministry of the church and God’s kingdom.

Responding to the church’s need for education in older adult ministries, the CCL developed a task force to design this certification. The task force consisted of educators in aging studies, pastors, and laity. All of these individuals currently work in aging ministries and education. This study program was designed to proactively meet the needs of older adults within the congregational setting and proactively work with those outside of church life.

The Center is also pleased with its partnership with the Christian Association Serving Adult Ministries (CASA). CASA is a national program focused on assisting in educating and resourcing the church related to senior adult ministries. Participants of the CCL are encouraged to become CASA members as a way of enhancing their educational understanding of senior adults and networking with those practicing and developing ministries to this age group. For information about this partnership, see the Aging Ministries Brochure.
