-- Title: WQME to cover AU and high school basketball games live |
The staff and management of WQME 98.7 recently announced the addition of local high school basketball games and Anderson University basketball games to its programming offering. The station will cover 23 selected high school games this year and 16 selected Anderson University basketball games. The proposed schedule for 2001-02 will kick-off on Tuesday, November 20, as WQME covers Pendleton Heights vs. Alexandria. Users of the Anderson University Web site can also take part in the broadcast through WQME’s streaming audio signal provided through WarpRadio.com.
“We’re delighted that this arrangement will enable listeners across central Indiana and over the Internet to keep up with some of their favorite teams,” said Don Boggs, general manager of WQME. “This is another avenue by which this station can reach out to the community and a wider audience.”
Providing commentary during many of the games will veteran radio personality Rod Brooks. Brooks began his broadcasting career in 1976. He began doing play-by-play announcing for athletic events in 1984. During his career, he has received awards from the Indiana Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association as well as the Indiana High School Athletic Association. A resident of central Indiana since 1964, Brooks has worked at WHBU and WLHN as well as many other radio stations during his career.
“It will be great to watch good athletic competition at the high school and college level,” said Brooks. “I’m anxious to meet coaches and friends I have known during my career.”
