WQME 98.7 FM recently announced the newest member of the WQME team. Ms. Kristy Deer was recently selected as the station’s News Director. In her role, Deer will oversee all news, sports, weather, and traffic information for the station as well as managing relationships with CNN and the Associated Press.
“I am delighted that Kristy is coming to Central Indiana,” said Don Boggs, general manager of WQME. “She brings extraordinary experience in both news and sports reporting that will serve our community well”
Deer comes to the university from her work as a sports reporter for WRTV-TV (ABC) in Indianapolis. Prior to her assignment with WRTV-TV (ABC) in Indianapolis, Deer worked for WSB-TV (ABC) in Atlanta, Georgia; KAKE-TV (ABC) in Wichita, Kansas; WVJS-TV (CABLE) Owensboro, Kentucky; and WISH-TV (CBS) in Indianapolis.
Throughout her career, Deer has gained experience as both a reporter and a news anchor. She has experience working with major sporting events such as the Super Bowl, World Series, The Masters golf tournament, and various racing events just to name a few.
Deer earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunications as well as an Associates Degree in Marketing from Ball State University. She is currently finishing graduate studies at the University of Georgia in Mass Media Studies.
WQME is Madison County’s most powerful commercial FM station. The broadcasting facility is owned and operated by Anderson University.
