The Anderson University campus has been greatly moved by the human tragedy that is continuing to occur to residents in the Gulf Coast states. Particularly, we have seen the great suffering of persons in the states of Alabama Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi. There are persons on the Anderson University campus; as well as alumni, friends and supporters, who have been impacted by this terrible storm. Photo credit: David Phillip/Reuters.

We want to respond as a campus by praying for persons and families that have been affected by this disaster. I am asking the campus community, as well as our friends across the country, to join with me in a day of prayer and reflection on Tuesday, September 6. Students on our campus will be having a time of prayer in our chapel/convocation in Reardon Auditorium. Additionally, the Adam W. Miller Chapel in the School of Theology will be open (from 8 to 11 a.m. and again 1 to 5 p.m.) to persons who would like to devote a moment of their day to reflect and pray.

The university is encouraging faculty and staff to give of their financial resources to help in the relief effort. Listed below are a few of the many reputable organizations that will make certain gifts are directed to persons in need. We encourage you to give to these or other organizations you want to support. For those in the campus community who would like to make a contribution, they may do so at the cashier’s window located on the ground floor of Decker Hall. The university will direct monies collected on campus to the American Red Cross for broad-based support and relief.

Anderson University has been in contact with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) to explore ways that the university can be helpful to institutions and students in these regions who have impacted as a result of Hurricane Katrina. We will continue to monitor the situation through our association with the CCCU.

It is a part of our mission and history to reach out to those in need. It is my hope that you will join with me in one of these opportunities to express care and concern. Thank you for your consideration and prayerful support.
