Why do you choose to teach/work at Anderson University?
When I saw the advertisement for the Anderson University entrepreneurship position, I stopped what I was doing and started to pray that my application would be accepted. There was definitely a higher power at work in the decision to apply to Anderson. When I came to campus to interview with the dean at 7:30 a.m., I was greeted by 21 faculty members from the business department. I was overwhelmed. If the entire department was committed to bringing in the best colleagues, they must have the same commitment to their students. Everyone on campus has been warm and inviting. Being at a faith-based institution with students who are committed to serve, I hope students will consider the social value created through their entrepreneurial actions, not just the financial bottom line. I believe wholeheartedly that social entrepreneurship is a tool that can change the world, and I hope to prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs who consider the social impact of their choices.

What do you like to do for fun?
Since I grew up on a farm in Okeana, Ohio (3 miles from the Indiana border), I loved being outdoors hiking up a mountain in Wyoming, rappelling though the rainforest in Costa Rica, or walking on the beach in Charleston. Since I adopted my little girl from Russia, she has embraced the outdoors, riding her bike in the neighborhood, swimming in the ocean, and chasing our dog in the backyard.

What is one thing that makes you unique?
What makes me unique is that I changed my entire teaching pedagogy from one that focused on how much money a business can make to teaching students how to make a difference in the world through entrepreneurial actions. To me, this is what makes learning so valuable — you come in with one position and you completely change your mind (and heart!) to embrace something entirely different.
