Charles Myricks

Charles James Myricks, Jr. is a native of Akron, Ohio.  After graduating from Garfield High School, he went on to graduate with special distinction in marketing and management from Anderson University (Anderson, IN). Myricks went on to receive his Master of Arts degree from Ashland Theological Seminary.

Myricks began his career in the corporate world progressing from sales, marketing and management positions at IBM and InterBold; to being the Vice President and General Manager of Word Gospel Records, a leading international label focused on Gospel music.  Under his leadership, Word Gospel artists received 3 Grammy Awards, 8 Dove Awards and 12 Stellar Awards.  Following the lead of the Lord in his life, Chuck moved into full-time Ministry as the Minister of Finance and Development at Arlington Church of God in Akron, Ohio.

His musical career started when he formed his first community choir at the age of 16.  Since that day he has flourished as an artist, songwriter, producer, executive producer, author, clinician and arranger.  He is the founder of Divine Hope, a 12-member ensemble that received the Gospel "New Artist of the Year" award in 1992.   Divine Hope has traveled extensively throughout the U.S and abroad. In 2001, Chuck wrote and directed the operetta  "Joseph and Mary: The Miracle of Love."  This short musical offers a new perspective on the Christmas story,  It’s a love story between two young people challenged by God to trust Him and each other.  In 2005 Myricks’ newest work, a complete stage musical, Paul: A Musical Journey, premiered in Akron Ohio.  The show uses a powerful blend of gospel music, rhythm and blues, jazz and rock to tell the story of the life of the Apostle Paul.  The show is currently touring nationally.

Myricks played an integral role in the launching and establishment of the highly successful Gospel Meets Symphony concerts in Akron Ohio.  Several of his original compositions have been performed by the Akron Symphony Orchestra, and the Ohio Ballet.

A deep believer in community involvement, Chuck has served as the chair of the Akron Gospelfest and was commissioned by First Night Akron to write and produce the theme song for the gala year 2000 celebration. Chuck has also served as: Chairman of Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates; Chairman Advisory Council East Akron Salvation Army; member, Board of Directors Akron Urban League; member, Board of Directors Akron Rotary; and member, Board of Directors United Gospel Industry Council. Current board assignments include the Anderson University Board of Trustees and the Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop (YEPAW) Board of Directors.

Chuck is married to Sherilyn Myricks and they have three children; Kathryn Elizabeth, Kristen Nichelle and Charles James III.
