Anderson University recognized seniors Ashley Ebbert, Leanna Miller and Anna Schramm for achieving a 4.0 cumulative GPA during their years at AU during honors chapel convocation on April 14. Deborah Gardner and Jake Eaton were also recognized with the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award for their academic and athletic accomplishments, campus involvement and leadership.
Anderson University will welcome Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to campus on Wednesday, April 13. The Deputy Secretary is visiting at the invitation of AU President John Pistole.
“Deputy Secretary Mayorkas is a leader in immigration policy and practice,” said Pistole. “His address to the community and time on campus is an opportunity for all of us to broaden our thinking and to hear perspectives from someone directly involved in issues of national security.”
Anderson University will conduct a police training exercise to prepare for the possibility of a gun-related incident on Thursday, April 14, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. AU law enforcement and emergency response agencies from nearby communities will be involved in the training exercise. The training exercise will be conducted at the northwest corner of the campus near Decker Hall at the intersection of 5th Street and College Drive.
Anderson University junior Kayla Jones recently received the 2016 Nicholson Student Servant Leadership Award for her servant leadership on campus and in the community. The award was made possible by funds directed to the university by Anderson University donors.
The award is named in honor of Dr. Robert A. Nicholson, president emeritus of Anderson University. Jones was selected through a campus nomination process to receive this award because of her involvement in service activities. As a part of the award, she will receive $500.
Anderson University will welcome nationally known author, scholar and pastor Leonard Sweet as the guest speaker for commencement on Saturday, May 7. Commencement will occur at 3 p.m. (EDT) in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Anderson University will award two honorary degrees during commencement. Both Sweet and the Rev. Arnetta McNeese Bailey, executive director of Christian Women Connection, will receive Honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees. The event is free and open to the public.
The Indianapolis Colts will conduct training camp at Anderson University for the seventh consecutive year this coming summer. Dates for the camp will be announced by the Indianapolis Colts. Thousands of fans attended the 2015 training camp, with opportunities to watch practices at AU's Macholtz Stadium and family activities available in Colts City.
