AU Continues To Deliver On Its Promises

In August 2000, our son, Andy, began his experience at AU.  Since that time, we have had the pleasure of continuing to enjoy the AU experience as our youngest son, Scotty, will be completing his degree in Bible and Religion at AU this year.

Anderson’s commitment to building life-long relationships was evident at Andy’s wedding, on July 14, when 17 of Andy’s AU friends came to share in this memorable occasion.  Included in this group of AU friends was Jason Varner, who married Andy and Kim.  Jason was Andy’s RA his freshman year at Anderson.

To see Andy’s AU friends stand in front of the church with him, the friends who have helped shape his life, gave a special meaning to this beautiful ceremony.  However, I must say that true love and friendship, the values that Anderson so strongly supports, was clearly evident in the speech that Andy’s brother, Scotty, made at the reception.  As Scotty spoke of his commitment to Christ and how his brother has been such a positive influence in his life, there was not a dry eye in the place.

As Scotty completes his degree in Bible and Religion at AU this year, he will also continue his involvement and commitment to a program called TAPP (Tumaini  (Swahili word meaning “hope”) AIDS Prevention Program) in Uganda.  TAPP is a social program that studies the medical, economic, cultural, and theological factors that have all contributed to the current HIV-led crisis in Africa.  As Scotty continues to serve, he will be making his fourth trip to Uganda in May 2008.

As we reflect on the Christian values that are such an important part of the AU community, and the opportunities that have been made possible for our boys to serve in other countries, we continue to give thanks to the AU staff and administration.  We know that this magical place has played a significant role in shaping the lives of our two sons as they have learned the importance of life-long relationships and have committed their lives to serving God.
