The purchasing and supply chain management profession has evolved into one of the most strategic and cost-leveraging functions in today's competitive business environment.

The Anderson University Purchasing and Supply Chain Management Certificate is a four-course, non-credit program focusing on the flow and distribution of goods from raw materials to finished products. Companies investing in supply management professionals are better equipped to deliver the highest value goods and services to their customers at the lowest possible cost.

The courses are designed to enhance individual managerial and leadership skills by improving problem-solving, negotiation, and strategic planning abilities to accomplish organizational objectives. By taking classes just one night per week, working adults can complete the seven-month program by December, 2008.

Participants will recieve a Certificate of Achievement upon completion of the following four courses:

  • Operations Management Foundations (PSCMC 1)
    June 3 - July 15, 2008
    An overview course concerned with the production and flow of goods and services from the business’ perspective. Examines how a firm produces and delivers its goods and services, with consistent and acceptable levels of quality, in a cost-effective manner.
  • Overview of Supply Chain Management – Physical Distribution (PSCMC 2)
    July 22 - September 9, 2008
    A general study of supply chain management concepts, with emphasis on an organization’s product distribution systems. Includes analysis of physical distribution decisions on other business functional areas.
  • Fundamentals of Purchasing (PSCMC 3)
    September 16 - October 28, 2008
    Learn the fundamentals of supply management, buyer-supplier relationships, e-procurement, specifications and standardization, and strategic sourcing. Discover tools for streamlining the acquisition process and adapt these concepts to your work environment.
  • Advanced Purchasing (PSCMC 4)
    November 4 - December 16, 2008
    What are the major challenges in setting supply objectives and strategies? How should you approach logistics purchasing, service purchasing, public purchasing, and capital goods acquisition? What is the legal authority and the personal liability of the purchasing officer? Continue to build upon the strategic and practical perspectives learned in Fundamentals of Purchasing.

Course Fees
Certificate Program Fee: $1498 (includes textbook fees).
Per Course Fee: $499 (includes textbook fee).
The program has been approved for TAA certified workers who are eligible for tuition assistance through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Continuing Education Units
Participants can receive 1.75 CEUs per course, for an additional $20 per course.

Who Should Attend
The program is designed for entry and mid-level staff. Common position titles in this business function are: operations manager, buyer, sourcing manager, commodity specialist, supplier development specialist, material planner, inventory coordinator, and logistics analyst. Classes can be taken individually depending on need and experience as well.

About the Presenter
Ken Jones, CPM, MBA is a purchasing and supply management professional with 14 years experience managing direct and indirect material procurement groups for global automotive, aerospace, and healthcare companies. He received a bachelor’s degree in finance and MBA in finance and marketing from Indiana University, and frequently teaches supply chain management courses for AU, IUPUI and Ivy Tech. In addition, Ken holds a Certified Purchasing Manager designation with the Institute of Supply Management.
