Risinger receives award

Steve Risinger BA ’74 received the 2000 National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award during NATA’s annual meeting in Tennessee in July. Risinger was one of 12 professionals to receive the award this year. Risinger has worked at AU for 26 years. He is the director of sports medicine, head athletic trainer and a professor of physical education. He has also worked with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.

New faculty

The university welcomed more than a dozen new faculty this fall.

Michael J. Bailey is an instructor of biology. Bailey earned his bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry from Sterling College in Kansas and a master of arts degree in biology from Ball State University in Indiana. He is a doctor of education candidate at Ball State, majoring in biology with cognates in anatomy/ physiology and higher education. He taught at Bartlesville Wesleyan College in Oklahoma, Ball State and Indiana Vocational Technical College prior to his arrival at AU.

Thomas D. Bakewell BA ’88 is assistant professor of physical education (athletic training). After earning his bachelor’s degree at AU, he studied kinesiology at Kansas State University and earned his master of science degree in 1993. Bakewell has worked as an assistant athletic trainer at Kansas State University and Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania, assistant professor and head athletic trainer at Indiana Wesleyan University and program director at Olivet Nazarene College in Illinois.

Bradley W. McKinney BA ’98 is instructor of art (graphic design). McKinney has been a guest lecturer and part-time instructor in the department. He worked as a designer for several Indianapolis businesses, including Brainstorm Design Inc., Cummings Meeting Consultants Inc., The Design Group Inc., and The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Mark E. Motluck is an assistant professor of accounting. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami in Florida. He worked as an attorney and loan officer and spent six years as president of Global Investor Securities Inc. He taught at Prairie State Community College in Illinois and Valencia Community College in Florida.

Sarah Neal BA ’91, BS ’96 is an instructor of nursing. Her undergraduate degrees are in nursing and social work. Prior to returning to AU, she worked for St. John’s Health System in Anderson, Ind., for 11 years.

Dr. Kimberly G. Perrine is an associate professor of biology. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Wright State University in Ohio and her master’s and doctoral degrees in genetics at Ohio State University. She worked as a research associate and adjunct assistant professor at Wright State University for seven years.

Maroline Martinez Ritter is an assistant professor of nursing. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Indiana University. She worked for Community Hospital in Indianapolis for 13 years and as a research assistant for Indiana University for four years.

Dr. J. Douglas Seelbach BA ’75 is a professor of physical education. He earned his ba-chelor’s degree in biology at AU and his master’s and doctoral degrees at Penn State University in Pennsylvania, studying physiology and nutrition. He comes with 20 years of experience, having taught at the University of Oregon, Penn State and Alma College in Michigan.

Dr. Chad E. Wallace BA ’94 is an assistant professor of chemistry. He received his doctorate in chemistry from University of Kentucky. He taught at University of Kentucky and Asbury College in Kentucky.

Rebekah R. Youngman-Forbes is the catalog librarian at Nicholson University Library. She earned bachelor’s degrees in rhetoric and English/writing education at University of Illinois. She received a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University. She worked at the Anderson (Ind.) Public Library for seven years before joining the faculty at AU.

Dr. Barbara Jones, Shane Kirkpatrick BA ’93, Sharon Pearson MA ’79, Holly Miller and Emily Hogue are fulfilling one-year appointments. Pearson and Kirkpatrick are teaching in the Religious Studies Depart-ment. Hogue is teaching Spanish. Jones, who retired from AU in May 1999, has returned to teach in the Education Department. Holly Miller is teaching in the Communication Department.
