Alumni Council announces scholarship
The Anderson University Alumni Council has announced an endowed scholarship for students of AU alumni.
Scott Palmer BA ’78 served on the council when the idea of a scholarship began to develop. He credits fellow council member Dr. Guy Perry BA ’66 for having the vision for the project. As a council, they began putting together a plan for the endowment.
“We wanted to make absolutely sure that we were not creating something that was going to work against scholarship opportunities that were already in place or detract from fundraising efforts of the university,” Palmer explained. They received the support of the university’s development team and began the task of raising funds for the endowment. This year they not only reached their initial monetary goal but surpassed it.
Applications are now being accepted. Students interested should have at least one parent who received a degree from AU and an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. For now, the endowment can provide one $500 scholarship a year. The scholarship will be renewable for up to four years. The council hopes to someday be able to offer four scholarships annually.
