Former AU athletes honored

Anderson University welcomed Richard Brown BA ’56, Ron Parr BS ’63, Kelly Spaulding-Packard BA ’90 and Paul Lambert BS ’62 into the Athletic Hall of Fame. They were honored during a banquet and ceremony Oct. 12.
Richard Brown came to AU in 1951 from Chillicothe, Ohio, to play basketball and tennis. Four years later, he left as the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball with 1,656 points; he is currently fourth on the career list.
Brown still holds records for free throws made in a game (21), season (200 in 1954-55) and career (578), as well as free throws attempted in a career (740) from 1952-55. He led the Ravens in scoring his final three seasons and was All-Conference three times. He lettered for one season on the tennis team.
Brown earned his master’s degree from The Ohio State University in public administration. He lives in Columbus, Ohio, and is the father of two adult children – Susan and Jay.
Paul Lambert came to AU from Bellefontaine, Ohio, in 1956 to play football, baseball and golf. He earned 12 letters in three sports, including All-Conference in football. He was named the first recipient of the Ernest P. Rangazas Award, which is still given to the outstanding senior athlete.
Since leaving Anderson, Lambert has coached football, baseball and track, and authored Marine Emergency Response Manual, distributed in four continents. He lives in Lake Jackson, Texas, with his wife Irene. They have four grown children – Guy, Paul Jr., Ronald and Donald.
Ron Parr came to AU in 1959 from Metropolis, Ill., to play football and run track. Parr was an All-Conference performer for four years in football and two more in track, earning eight letters.
Parr earned his master’s degree in physical education from Indiana University in 1964. He and his wife Helen live in Tulare, Calif., and have three children – Rhonda, Michael and Samuele.
Kelly Spaulding-Packard came to Anderson in 1986 to participate in basketball and track. She left as the all-time leading scorer (1,275) and rebounder (723) in women’s basketball – both of which were broken only last year by Rachel Miller. She still holds school records for season (588) and career field goal attempts (1,217).
Spaulding-Packard was All-Conference four times in basketball and finished third in the conference track meet. She was named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete in 1990. She is currently a WNBA agent and employed by Triple Crown Sports marketing group. She lives in Ft. Collins, Colo., with her husband Rich BA ’88 and their two young children – Derek and Evan
