Remembering Our Friends

Louise (Kesecker) Morrison '37 died July 16, 2003, in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker and lived much of her life in Anderson, Ind. She attended Park Place Church of God and was a charter member of the Meg March Club. She was the wife of the late Earl Morrison '33. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Young and Sally (Morrison) Blom BA '66; a brother, Max Kesecker; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Brooks '47 died March 22, 2003, in Pinehurst, N.C. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II. In addition to AU, Brooks studied at the University of Nebraska and the Spartan School of Aeronautics and Radio Engineering. He worked for the United States Department of Defense and Lear Incorporated, then owned and operated his own business, Ultra-Tool Corporation, in Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife, Norida (Cooper) Brooks '47; a daughter, Rhonda Brooks; a son, Randall Brooks; a sister, Charlotte Brooks; and three grandchildren.

Nathan Smith BA '48 died Aug. 5, 2003, after a 16-year battle with cancer. For more than 55 years, he served as a Church of God pastor, teacher and missionary. He ministered in Japan and Korea for 30 years alongside Ann Espey Smith BS '58, his wife of 53 years. They returned to Anderson, Ind., in 1980. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Eunice Carter and Ruthie (Smith) Johnston BS '53, and many nieces and nephews.

William Westlake BS '55 died June 15, 2003. He was a veteran of World War II and a teacher for more than 20 years. He also served as a minister and worked as a missionary in a Spanish-speaking community in San Antonio. He is survived by two daughters, Jone Cuming and Donna Jean Carter; one son, William Westlake; one brother, Byron Westlake BS '51; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marcella (Ellis) Welsh BS '56 died July 10, 2003, in Columbus, Ind. She held a master's degree in education from Ball State University and taught elementary school for 31 years before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus. She is survived by her husband, Harold Welsh BS '59; two sons, Eric Welsh and Kevin Welsh; and two brothers, Dr. William Ellis BA '52, MDiv '57 and Eldridge Ellis BS '61.

E. Jane Williams '58 died Feb. 28, 2003. For many years, she worked in ministerial partnership with her husband in several states. For the past 11 years she served as a professional librarian at the Eckhart Public Library in Auburn, Ind. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. O. Dale Williams BA '58, MDiv. '62; two sons, Tony Williams BA '89 and Chris Williams BA '92, MBA '00; and three grandchildren.
