Walter Ratzlaff BTh, BS '43 completed a history of his grandfather, Benjamin Ratzlaff. "He started the Church of God in Marion, S.D., and was blessed with 275 followers witnessing for Jesus," Walter writes.

Dick Altman and his wife live in Aurora, Colo. They are living in an apartment until they find a more permanent home. "We have a hard time finding Churches of God," Dick writes.

Carol Lynne (Olson) Usher BA and Jim Usher BA '65 moved from Alabama to Xenia, Ohio, where they work full time for the mission organization Heart to Honduras. "After many years in the South, we were reinitiated into real winter with all of the snow that fell last winter," Carol Lynne writes. They welcomed their first grandchild, Meredith Grace Lindsay, in June, thanks to their daughter and son-in-law Sonja and Garth Lindsay. "She is, of course, precious and beautiful," Carol Lynne adds.

Bette (Buckbee) Worcester BA retired in March after 18 years at the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. She accepted a temporary position there as regulatory process manager. She is a public member on the Board of Governors of the Oregon State Bar and is organist at Atkinson Memorial Church in Oregon City.

Penny (Thoma) Culver received a master's degree in counseling from Kent State University. She graduated with a 3.95 GPA. She's taught in the Windham Exempted Village Schools for 26 years. She was named Portage County Teacher of the Year in 2001 and nominated for the Ohio Teacher of the Year Award and the Walt Disney Teacher of the Year Award. She lives in Warren, Ohio.

Dr. Adelbert James BA directs the Infertility Prevention Project in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine. He and his wife, Ardel, live in Atlanta.

Vince Bradley BA and his wife, Dawn, announce the birth of their first child, Johnathan William, on Jan. 15, 2003. "We have truly been blessed by his birth," Vince writes. The family lives in Fort Myers, Fla., and attends the Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Leanne (Hurt) Brooks BA graduated Summa Cum Laude from Illinois State University in May with a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a mathematics specialization. She plans to teach part time at a local university and enjoy time with her children, 8-year-old Jason and 6-year-old Laura. Randy Sarju BA and Joy (Reid) Sarju AA '87, BA '87 have relocated from the Cayman Islands to the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. They have two children.

Suzanne Thurman BA and her husband, George Makowski, welcomed their first child, Charles George, on Feb. 15, 2002. A few weeks later, Syracuse University Press published Suzanne's first book, O Sisters Ain't You Happy?: Gender, Family and Community Among the Harvard and Shirley Shakers, 1781-1918. The book won a 2002 Choice Outstanding Academic Book Award. She also writes poetry and short stories for adults and children. She would love to hear from friends at srthurm@hiwaay.net.

Brenda (Jacobs) Williams BA took her 6th-8th grade chorus from Rockvale (Tenn.) Elementary School to a choral competition in Kentucky, where they received a superior rating, first-place trophy and a perfect score. They also received the Overall Choir Award for the entire competition, outscoring 12 other choirs from elementary and high schools. Brenda's son, Tyler, is a member of the choir. Brenda has taught at Rockvale for five years. She and her husband, Steven, also have a daughter, Bethany. The family lives in Rockvale, and Brenda is the music coordinator at Rockvale Church of God.

Jenny (Smith) Davis BA and her husband, Steve, have lived in West Haven, Conn., since August 2002. They have three children - Evanleigh, age 9; Harrison, age 7; and Rowyn, age 5. Jenny has been hired to teach part time in the remedial English program at New Haven University. Steve teaches in the Religion Department at Yale University. He earned a Ph.D. from Yale in 1998, and for the next four years the family lived in Cairo, Egypt, where he taught in a seminary. Though they left Egypt a bit reluctantly, they enjoy being back in the states and in the New Haven area.

Kent Davis BA received a master's degree in school administration from Butler University. He is the principal at Taylor Primary School in Kokomo, Ind. He taught at South Elementary in Pendleton, Ind., for 14 years before accepting the position in Kokomo. Moses Obara BA works for a small family-owned company in the fabrication and renovation of metal and timber products. He also spends time developing small businesses in urban and rural settings.

Jeff Deyo BA and Martha (Cameron) Deyo BA announce the birth of their first son, Roman Jeffrey, on Dec. 18, 2002. Jeff writes, "He is a miracle baby for two reasons - first because we tried unsuccessfully for 4 1/2 years to have children and second because he is extremely strong and healthy despite arriving 6 1/2 weeks early!" The family lives in Nashville, Tenn., where Jeff is a worship artist for Gotee Records. His second solo album, Light, was released in September. Deborah Northey Strahan BA announces the birth of Colton Glen on Jan. 15, 2003. Colton was welcomed home by big brother Austin, 2.

Scott Strawn BA successfully defended his dissertation, "Herding Cats with Carrots and Sticks: Governance Structures, Performance Funding and Faculty Productivity." He graduated in May with a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Kansas.

Dale Cardozo BA and Beth (Armstrong) Cardozo BA '96 welcomed their second daughter, Ellie Suzanne, on Jan. 24, 2003. The family lives in Fishers, Ind.

Aaron Henderson BA and his wife, Jennifer, announce the birth of Gabrielle Nichole on Sept. 10, 2001. Aaron received his master's degree in public administration from Valdosta State University that same year.

Stacie (Gardner) Landess BA announces the birth of a son, Seth David, on July 11, 2002. "His 4-year-old brother, Alex, is so excited to have a playmate," Stacie writes.

Stephanie (Pfennig) Puckett BA and her husband, Dan, announce the birth of their first child, Robert John, on May 19, 2003. The family lives in England, where Dan is in the U.S. Air Force.

Christa (Rogers) Wells BA and Toby Wells BA '93 live in Raleigh, N.C., with their two children, Aidan and Sofia. Toby is a financial adviser for VALIC, and Christa is balancing songwriting and full-time parenting. "A sometimes crazy but wonderful life at the moment," she writes.

Kristy (Stamper) Morgan and her husband, Kevin, live in Manhattan, Kan. Kristy is the assistant director of Kansas State University's Career and Employment Services. She is working on a doctorate in student affairs in higher education. Kevin is a field artillery officer in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Riley.

Danielle Roush is a communications shift supervisor for a police dispatch. She is taking classes in hostage negotiations and crime scene investigation/ forensics. She is in the process of being hired as a patrol officer.

Cally (Shannon) Rosecrans and her husband, Jeremiah, announce the birth of their second daughter, Trinity Jayne, on Nov. 12, 2002. "Kaitlyn Jo, 2, has been a terrific older sister," Cally writes. Cally is a stay-at-home mom. Jeremiah works for Apex Paving in Indianapolis.

Rob Culross BA moved from California to Indianapolis in June and is working for Clarian Health Partners, Inc. He works with a team of 30 people implementing a new corporate-wide information system. "Specifically I work in the ambulatory care unit. I work closely with doctors, nurses and other medical staff to analyze their workflow and ensure that the new system will fit efficiently into the dynamics of the clinic," Rob writes.

Aaron Gardner BA is an addictions therapist at the Center for Behavioral Health in Bloomington, Ind. He writes that he is "one of the few Christians on staff and am finding that I am making an impact on clients as well as fellow clinicians" through Christian witness. He and Hidi (Lamaster) Gardner BA '02 recently moved to Bedford, Ind.

Lisa Wezeman BA graduated from Grand Valley State University with a master's degree in physical therapy. She was named Outstanding Physical Therapy Student and received a one-year fellowship at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center in outpatient pediatrics. "I'm so excited to begin my career after seven long years in school," Lisa writes.

Suzanne Ekstrom BSN is a pediatric nurse in the infant/toddler unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Amanda Hicks BA married Joshua Pelser on June 21, 2003, in Fair Oaks, Calif. Alumni in the wedding included Ann Baldwin BA and Julie Barr BA. Amanda graduated from Talbot School of Theology in May with a master's degree in Old Testament. They live in La Mirada, Calif.

Alison (Spires) Isenhour and her husband, Derek, live in Brownsburg, Ind., with their two cats. They look forward to starting a family in a couple of years.

Carrie Kirkpatrick BSN completed a 16-month program to become a certified paramedic. She works as an emergency department charge nurse for Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

Jennifer Schmidt BA married Jonathan Holloway '98 in August 2001. They live in Massillon, Ohio. Jennifer is a graphic designer at Malone College, and Jonathan is a pastor of student ministries at Forty Corners Church of God.

Bronwen Thomas BA is in her second year at Harton Regional Medical Center, where she works in human resources. "Work can be very challenging and it is different than what I expected," she writes. Bronwen enjoys living closeby to her nephew, Trey, and is looking forward to welcoming another niece or nephew to the family soon.
