Class of 1950       Top of page

Barbara (Taylor) Clausen attended the second annual concert by members of the Ritter-Miller families in Tilden, Neb., in June. They are descendants of Fritz and Maria Clausen, the parents of several children including Ella Ritter and Henry Clausen. Henry was the first music professor at AU and Barbara’s late father-in-law. All but two of the Miller and Ritter children are music teachers or professional musicians. During the two-hour concert, a freewill offering was taken to benefit the Clausen Endowment at AU.

Bob Farlow BA received his doctorate in education from Ball State University. He is also one of 10 artists chosen for the Painting Indiana Project. Each artist will complete 10 paintings to be included in a traveling exhibit, television presentation, and coffee table book published by Indiana University Press. The book will be released in 2005. The exhibit will continue through 2006.

Hubert Dixon BS earned his master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. He worked for the World Health Organization in Geneva from 1964 until his retirement in 1997. He lives in France and enjoys pursuing his hobbies, in particular gardening and traveling.

Jerry Bruce BA has been named associate dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Sam Houston State University. He has been at the university for more than 30 years, serving most of that time as chair of the Department of Psychology and Philosophy. During his years as chair, the department moved from a small service department to one of the major graduate programs at SHSU. The psychology program offers three Master of Arts degrees and a PhD in clinical forensic psychology. SHSU is located in Huntsville, Texas, and has an enrollment of 13,000 students. It is one of the schools within The Texas State University System. His wife, Betty Bryant Bruce, is a realtor in Huntsville.

Joyce Weaver retired from the United States Postal Service. She is a survivor of ovarian cancer and underwent several surgeries from 1993-1999. She is now happily living on her 57-acre farm of rolling green pastures and raises a flock of Dorset sheep. She enjoys digital photography. Her photographs have been published in Farmworld newspaper, which has a circulation of 35,000. She sang in The Messiah with the Crawfordsville, Ind., Community Chorus at Wabash College. Dontie (Miklich) Fuller BA received a master’s degree in Christian education from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va., on May 20.

Faith Pencil BA was promoted to assistant professor of humanities at Urbana University. She also teaches voice, piano, and other music classes at Clark State Community College. She is active in Maiden Lane Church of God by singing, playing for services, and leading the handbell choir.

Tim Smith BA and Linda (Scott) Smith BA both received Master of Education degrees from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, in June. Tim received his as an intervention specialist, mild to moderate, kindergarten through 12th grade. Linda received hers in educational leadership.

Dave Noel BA received a 2004 Dove Award for the children’s musical, The First Noelle, with Integrity Music.

David Stone BA retired from Delco Remy as director of international business. He works with Mitsubishi Electric as the executive director of powertrain, body, and chassis. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Michigan.

Tim Woodsome BA and Nan (Briggs) Woodsome purchased a motorcycle dealership in Springfield, Mo., in October 2003. Tim writes, “The name of our dealership is Cruisin’ 66. We are new dealers for Big Dog and Victory Motorcycles and also sell used motorcycles, accessories, parts, and apparel. We have a certified service center.” They invite alums passing through the area to stop by.

Joseph Heeter BA was promoted to first vice president and counsel with MBNA, the successor to Sky Financial. He and his wife, Melissa, moved their family into a new house in Dublin, Ohio.

Bonnie (Bart) Baylor BA and her husband, David, announce the birth of Michael on April 10, 2004. “He joins brother Joshua, 6, in keeping Mom and Dad busy,” Bonnie writes. The family lives in Michigan.

Ginny (Rogers) Pass BA is working on a master’s degree in worship studies at Robert Webber’s Institute for Worship Studies. She hopes to graduate in the spring. She is the music director at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City and an adjunct professor of worship at Mid-America Christian University.

Tibbett (Loeffler) Merusi BA is working with her husband, Brian, and their three children as missionaries in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Prior to moving to the Congo, they worked in Central Asia for eight years.

Me’Shae Brooks-Rolling BA of M.L.B. Rolling Consulting achieved the status of Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP), the highest designation administered by the International Special Events Society. She and her husband, James, live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Sonia (Oliveros) Holcombe BA and her husband, Sean, announce the birth of Noah Elija on Nov. 27, 2003. He was welcomed home by a sister, Nadia, 6, and a brother, Noland, 3.

Chris DeBolt BA received his Master of Business Admini-stration from Arizona State University. He is a Certified Professional Manu-facturers Representative and head of his own sales rep firm. The DeBolt Company covers all of Florida and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Caribbean. He and his wife, Pamela, have two sons, Jaren, 5, and Chance, 2. Chris is the son of Jerry BA ’66 and Diane (Magsig) BA ’62 DeBolt.

Ischaji Robertson BA is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Hallandale Beach and Miami. Ischaji speaks Spanish and is a partner in Psychotherapy and Testing Consul-tants, Inc. The practice’s specialties are depression, psychological evaluations, anger management, children, and adults. Ischaji has lived in the South Florida area since 1999 and can be reached at (786) 586-3818.

Andrew Ryder BA and Sharon (Studer) Ryder BA announce the birth of James Andrew on March 17, 2003. They had a wonderful first year together and look forward to many more.

Eric Houchin BA and his wife, Kristi, announce the birth of their second son, Samuel David, on April 14, 2004. According to his grandfather, he will be an up-and-coming quarterback for the University of Michigan. The Houchins practice medicine together in Vicksburg, Mich. They are active in their church, serving on the administrative council and advisory boards.

Tricia (Grimes) McCorkle BA and her husband, Shane, announce the birth of a daughter, Karli Marie, on Sept. 15, 2003.

Malinda (Hunt) Murphy BA has taught at Meridian Elementary in Grosse Ile, Mich., for the past 10 years. She has three children — Paige, 7, Jeremy, 6, and Victoria, 2.

Dana (Morrall) Altman BA and her husband, Tim, welcomed a son, Tyler James, on Feb. 12, 2003. The family lives in Quincy, Ill., where Dana is a family physician.

Cathy (Martin) Davison and her husband, Jim, welcomed a son, John Henry, on March 30, 2004. “Since surviving cervical cancer, we never imagined that we would have John Henry,” Cathy writes. “He is such a blessing to us. Amy Fensler BA married Jack Johnson on March 20, 2004, at First Church of God in Defiance, Ohio. Michelle (Senseman) Thomas BA was the matron of honor and Melissa Senseman-Pratt BA ’91 was the vocalist. Jack owns Hawk’s clothing stores and Amy teaches social studies at Bryan High School. Jennifer (Cooper) Kauffman BA frequently appears as a soloist with the Muncie Symphony and Masterworks Chorale as well as with the Anderson Symphonic Choir/Anderson Symphony Orchestra and other groups.

Jill (Schickedanz) Kyle BA and her husband, Jeff, announce the birth of their fourth daughter, Sarah Grace, on April 27, 2004. She was welcomed home by Hannah, 8, and twins Abigail and Rachel, 3. Mila (Hart) Moore BA and her husband, Terry, purchased a new home with three acres a few miles outside of Jefferson City, Mo., north of the Missouri River. Terry is a captain with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He administers the traffic division and continues road duty as assigned. Mila enjoys homeschooling their two daughters, Mikayla, 6, and Lorna, 4.

Gina (Meyer) Norr BA and her husband, Kent, announce the birth of Joshua Jaron on May 12, 2004. Joshua was welcomed home by brothers Elijah, 5, and Isaac, 2. The family lives in Union, Mich.

Tom Rees BA and Lorie (Kaufman) Rees BA announce the birth of Korey Matthew on Feb. 3, 2003. Korey has a 5-year-old sister, Keira. Tom works in the legal media field, and Lorie recently completed her hours for an independent counseling license.

David Troutman BA was promoted last spring to senior major and planned gifts officer at Wabash College.

Shellby (Roseman) Winget BA lives in Cincinnati with her husband, Greg. She completed a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Cincinnati and began working in the schools in August.

Cindy (Nazarian) Bielik BA and her husband, Rich, announce the birth of a daughter, Jorie Krystyna, on March 17, 2004. They live outside of Chicago in LaGrange Park, Ill.

Steve Fehlinger BA and his wife, Lori, announce the adoption of a daughter, Hope Marie, on April 11, 2004. “We were able to be in the delivery room when she was born,” Steve writes. “We took her home from the hospital. She has been a joy to have in our lives, especially since the loss of our daughter, Virginia, and son, Keegan. She is definitely God’s answer to many, many prayers. We definitely felt God’s hand in this process.”

Jeff Spires BA and Robin (Link) Spires BA ’95 returned to Anderson, Ind., in 1998. Robin worked as a resident director at AU for three years. Now she stays home with their two boys, Jacob, 4, and Caleb, 1. Jeff is the manager of technical support at AdminaStar Federal, a division of Anthem Inc.

Michelle (Farner) Morrow BA received a master’s degree in the art of teaching from Marygrove College in February. She has taught second grade at Northwestern schools for five years. She lives in Sterling, Ohio, with her husband, Jason, and 4-year-old daughter, Mikayla.

Jill (Miner) Weippert BA completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at Wichita State University. She is a psychologist for South Central Mental Health. Andrew Weippert BA is taking a few years off work to be a stay-at-home dad and to take classes for a career change to accounting. Their son, Adam James, will turn 1 year old on Dec. 31, the day after his sister Lauren’s fifth birthday.

Lisa (Jackson) Bowden BA and her husband, Rodney, announce the birth of their son, R.J. (Rodney Jackson), on Dec. 4, 2003. The family lives in Cincinnati, where Lisa teaches third grade for Cincinnati Public Schools.

Kristin (Booth) Hodgin BA and James Hodgin BA ’95 announce the birth of their second child, Hannah Ashley, on May 14, 2004. Colin, 3, is excited to have a baby sister. The family lives in Franklin, Tenn.

Rebecca (Myers) Hollenbaugh BSN graduated with honors on May 1 from the University of Saint Francis with a master’s degree in nursing as a family nurse practitioner. On May 9, Rebecca and her husband, Jade, welcomed the birth of their second child, Jackson Steven. He arrived five weeks early. Rebecca works with Dr. Lisa Hatcher in a family practice clinic in Columbia City, Ind.

Lynelle Johnson BA married Jason Steffan on June 7, 2003, in Monument, Colo. Alumni in the wedding were Christy (Locke) Westberg ’95 and Brandy (Dieterle) Bakker BA ’96. Lynelle and Jason live in Manhattan on the Upper West Side. Lynelle is Miss USO 2004, traveling around the world entertaining and being an ambassador for the troops and veterans and representing a 63-year tradition of service to those serving and those who have served. She also performs with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players and in other musical productions and recording projects in New York City. Jason is a working actor in film and television.

Andrew Matas BA and Amy (Tokarski) Matas BA ’99 welcomed a son, Benjamin Daniel, on May 10, 2004. Andrew practices law for the Chicago firm O’Hagan, Smith and Amundsen in their Geneva, Ill., office. Amy is a stay-at-home mom to Benjamin and his brother, Jonah, 2.

Megan (Drennan) Taylor BA and her husband, Brian, announce the birth of a son, Brockton Allen, on March 8, 2004. They have a daughter, Gracie, 3. Meg teaches first grade in Canton, Ohio.

Andrew Finn BA was promoted to training manager of restaurant operations for the Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort. He watches the parade every day from his office that overlooks Main Street USA. He will finish his master’s degree in human resource development and administration in December.

Tracie (Butler) Hand BA and Russell Hand BA announce the birth of Logan Russell on Oct. 20, 2003. Russell finished his master’s degree in school counseling at Stetson University over the summer. He started a master’s endorsement in marriage and family counseling this fall. They are both employed by Pasco County Schools as teachers.

Kelly (Ruthenburg) Howe BA and Craig Howe BA ’94 announce the birth of a daughter, Emma, on June 15, 2003. Craig continues to teach at Mississinewa Community Schools. Kelly is a coordinator in Elwood, Ind., for the Center for Mental Health.

Michele Jackson BA married Aaron Crane on Sept. 20, 2003, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis. Sara Fasel BA was promoted from assistant registrar to college registrar at Warner Southern College. She is the youngest registrar in the college’s history and currently the youngest registrar among all of Florida’s colleges and universities. She holds a master’s degree in informational science from Florida State University.

Autumn Hency BA married Hank Meeker BA ’99 on May 22, 2004, at Wesley Free Methodist Church in Anderson, Ind. Alumni in the wedding included Alison Turner-Emery BA, Stephanie Stahl BA and Chris Williams BA ’92, MBA ’00. Hank is completing a Master of Divinity at the School of Theology and working in the Events Planning Office at Church of God Ministries. Autumn works in Indianapolis. Robert Maurer BA and his wife, Lisa, announce the birth of their first son, Chad Robert, on March 25, 2004. Robert writes that while Jeremy Maurer BA ’01 is a proud uncle, he still refuses to change diapers.

R.W. Moody Jr. and Joy (Wolfe) Moody BA ’99 announce the birth of Madeline Kay on Feb. 20, 2004. They moved to Springfield, Ohio, where R.W. is the youth minister at Hillside Avenue Church of God. Their new address is 324 Runyan Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45503.

Jeremy Schwarz BA married Rachel Stalker on April 24, 2004, at the Community Gospel Church in Connersville, Ind. Alumni in the wedding included Micah Moss BA and Jeff Smith BA. Jeremy and Rachel enjoyed a three-week honeymoon in Hawaii. Jeremy is a video technician supporting broadcasts and video production for Eli Lilly and Company. Virginia (Cawthorne) Wickline BA received the Joseph E. Pryor Alumni Fellowship from Alpha Chi for 2004-2005. Alpha Chi awards this national scholarship, which carries a stipend of $5,000, to an active alumni member enrolled in a graduate or professional program. Virginia is pursing a graduate degree at Emory University.

John Zofko BA and his wife, Debra, announce the birth of Daniel on Dec. 7, 2003. They have built a new home in Clio, Mich. John and Debra will celebrate their third wedding anniversary in March.

Tara (Slotsema) Pawloski BA and her husband, Todd, announce the birth of their first child, Jacalynn Hope, on Aug. 6, 2003. Tara is finishing a master’s degree in learning disabilities at Modonna University while teaching special education at Henry Ford Academy. The family lives in Dearborn, Mich.

Cara Garcia Price BA and her husband, Matt, both graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in May. Cara began her pediatrics residency at the University of Louisville in July.

Robin (Greene) Snyder BA and Brian Snyder BA ’98 announce the arrival of their surviving quintuplets, Hayden Anderson and Ava Lynne, on Dec. 4, 2003. They lost Gabriel Paul on Nov. 3, 2003, Elliot Kenneth on Nov. 13, 2003, and Miles Lee on Dec. 31, 2003.

Tim Vogt BA married Sierra Jennings BA on Jan. 31, 2004, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Doug Williams finished his enlistment as a sonar technician with the U.S. Navy. He moved to northern Virginia and is a program analyst for Stanley Associates in Washington, D.C. Jeannette Bunce BA married Kyle McMahon on June 26, 2004, at Carmel Lutheran Church in Carmel, Ind. Alumni in the wedding were Tori (Lawrence) Kinder BA and Andy Grooms ’01. Kyle graduated from Ball State University and works as a sound production engineer for Mid America Sound Corporation in Indianapolis. Jeannette teaches reading recovery in the Anderson Community Schools Corporation. They live in Anderson.

Matthew Ferris BA graduated cum laude with a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He accepted a two-year associate position in a practice in Schaumburg, Ill. Future plans include opening a chiropractic office with his brother in Fishers, Ind.

Heather (Clark) Waterson BA worked as a licensed social worker in the health care field for four years. She recently started a new career and opened her own stationery business, The Paper Bouquet. She and her husband, Pete, have a 2-year-old son, Mathew. They live in Ohio.

Joel Flores BA graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy last April. He was assigned to the Lafayette post upon graduating from the academy. He and Charity (Stubblefield) Flores BA ’01 relocated to Crawfordsville, Ind., where Charity teaches seventh grade math at Tuttle Middle School.

Rachael Hoffert BA and David Hoffert BA live in Warsaw, Ind. David teaches for Warsaw Community Schools. Rachael teaches third grade at Model Elementary in Goshen. They are both working on their master’s degrees.

Amanda Legge BA married Nathan Reynolds on May 1, 2004, at Park Place Church of God in Anderson, Ind. They bought an old home in Greenfield, Ind., and are remodeling it. Amanda is a designer at a downtown Indianapolis ad agency. Nathan is self-employed.

Jason Shaffer BA and Jennifer (Reilly) Shaffer BA ’01 moved to Atlanta in August to be part of an inner city ministry called Mission Year, which is headed by Bart Campolo. They were first inspired to participate in Mission Year when they heard Campolo and Orion Trickey speak at AU.

John Anderson BA married Sue Wood BA on June 12, 2004, at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. Sue works at Methodist Sports Medicine Center and John is the head athletic trainer at Morristown High School. He started work on a doctorate in physical therapy at the University of Indianapolis this fall.

Kristin Giesler BA married Daniel Hovestol on May 29, 2004, in Lake Geneva,Wis. Kristin is the marketing and sales specialist for the Mark Shea State Farm Agency in Delavan, Wis. Kristin and Dan live in Elkhorn, Wis.

Jessica Kingsbury BA married Travis Daugherty BA ¹02 on July 26, 2003. Jessica works for Gaither Music Company. Travis is an English and speech teacher and basketball coach at Alexandria High School. They live in Edgewood, west of Anderson.

Den Slattery MA ¹81, MDiv has written a book titled From the Point to the Cross: One Vietnam Vet¹s Journey Toward Faith. In the book, Den writes about how his life changed after being pinned down by enemy fire in a rice paddy in Vietnam. His book is not only about the war but also about finding a reason to live. It is available in paperback and as an electronic book. Den first went to Vietnam in 1969 as an infantryman with the Marines. Out of the 200 men who went with him, only 25 made it back. In 1972, Den returned to Vietnam with the Army, working in avionics on helicopters. He went on to become an Army chaplain. Den is currently a pastor in Ludington, Mich., where he lives with his wife, Karen, and their four children. He is the author of three other books and is the founder of Point to the Cross Ministries.

Grant Horner MDiv is the senior pastor of Clairemont Church of God in San Diego. Erin (Hamer) Horner BA ¹00 is a full-time mom to their daughter, Kilee, who will be 2 in January.
