Ella Mae (Hahn) Good ’31 died Jan. 2, 2001. While at AU, she studied Christian education, music, and ministry. She married the late Virgil Lee Good ’30 on June 11, 1930. Their first church was in Tomah, Wisc. They moved to California in 1934, where they pastored several churches and began new churches. After Virgil’s death in 1992, Ella Mae moved to Citrus Heights, Calif., and continued to serve as she was able. She is survived by her son, Alvie (wife Shirley); four grandchildren, Alvie, Desiree, Sunny and Cheri; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Keller; and nieces and nephews.
Alvena Mae (Jarvis) VanNorman ’45 died Aug. 10, 2000. She was retired from the state insurance department of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In 1956, she and her husband, Pierson F. VanNorman BTh ’45, founded the First Church of God in Frankfort, Ky., where she was an active member at the time of her death. Her mother, the late Elsie (Bates) Jarvis ’18, was a member of the first class at AU. Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons, David VanNorman BA ’69, MDiv ’78 (wife Brenda, former SOT employee), Paul VanNorman BA ’71 (wife Debbie (Lineback) VanNorman BA ’71), Daniel VanNorman BA ’77 and Philip VanNorman; three grandchildren, John VanNorman BA ’97, AU student Julia VanNorman and Jeremy VanNorman; one brother, Melvin Jarvis; four sisters, Lorene (Jarvis) Hughes ’46, Louise (Jarvis) Pickens ’47, Elizabeth Davidson and Elsie Ruth Warmoth; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at the Frankfort First Church of God Aug. 14, her 55th wedding anniversary.
R. Byron Crosthwaite BS ’51 died May 17, 2000.
Maurene D. (Mauch) Beeson ’69 died Nov. 17, 2000, following a two-year battle with breast cancer. Maurene was a representative for Home Interiors. She owned and operated the Anderson Wallpaper Shoppe from 1981 to 1989. During that time, her work was featured in several homes on the annual Anderson Parade of Homes. She later became a design consultant and sales representative for a local furniture store. In 1997, she began working as manager of the Latte Coffee Bar at Gaither Family Resources in Alexandria. She was active at East Side Church of God. Maurene is survived by her husband of 32 years, Roger A. Beeson BA ’71; two sons, Rodney Beeson and Ryan Beeson; her mother, Arlene Mauch, BA ’47; two brothers, Edward Mauch and Philip Mauch ’77; and two granddaughters, Ashley and Hailee Beeson. She was preceded in death by a son, Ross A. Beeson, in 1977, and her father, the Rev. Maurice J. Mauch BA ’46, BTh ’47, in 1988.
Nicole (Hiar) Manhart BA ’96 died Dec. 4, 2000, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She lived in Aberdeen, S.D., with her husband, Grant Manhart, and young twin sons.
