Clair Shultz BA, BTh '39 and Retha (Mills) Shultz BA '37 celebrated their 90th birthdays this year. In December they moved into an assisted living facility in Anderson, Ind. Helen Mathews LaBar BA is 92 years old and living in Michigan. She remains active by leading weekly Bible studies, teaching rug-making classes and making many wool rugs herself. She and her late husband, William LaBar '36, spent many years in northern Wisconsin, where they raised four sons and Helen taught English and math.

Joyce (Fetherolf) Sandage volunteers as a mentor, cheerleader and all-school grandmother for McClernand Elementary School in Springfield, Ill. She began volunteering at the school in 1950 when her children started kindergarten. She has been at the school in some capacity ever since. She is now a clerical assistant - grading and copying papers for teachers, checking in visitors and keeping track of tardy students. The Illinois State Journal-Register published an article about Joyce's work in their March 17 issue.

Leslie Decker BS, BTh was awarded an honorary co-chair position on the national Business Advisory Council in February. He received the award from Majority Leader and Texas Congressman Tom DeLay.

Richard Swank BS, BTh '50 spends his summers in Edmonds, Wash., where he enjoys gardening, entertaining and visiting. He spends his winters at Genesis Pointe, Lake Wales, Fla. His wife, Mary Martha (Youngblood) Swank, died suddenly March 16, 2002, while they were visiting their son, Sheldon Swank BA '78. "Although it was a devastating blow and life will never be the same again without her, my family and I are so thankful she never had to spend one day in the hospital or months or years in a nursing home," Richard writes. "With the wonderful support of God, family and friends, I am surviving. Life is still meaningful for me, and I have much I hope to accomplish in the allotted time ahead."

William Neece BA and his wife, Leta, are retired, but they remain active in their ministry, traveling to evangelistic meetings across the country. They celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary this summer.

Dick Kortokrax BS has won more basketball games than any other Ohio coach in the state's history. Dick has coached for 43 years. He set the record with his 696th win this past season when the Kalida Wildcats beat Allen East High School.

Pat Adair Reinholz BA and her husband, Carl, live in Tulsa, Okla. They are active in Red Fork Church of God. They have two children and four grandchildren. Since retiring in 1998, Pat and Carl have traveled to 24 states.

Lillian (Kitchen) Black completed eight years as a volunteer missionary for JAARS, Inc., on Jan. 6. JAARS is an arm of Wycliffe Bible Translators. "We have 3,000 more languages to translate and hope to have them all started by 2025," Lillian writes.

Martin Stillings BA retired from the Department of Rehabilitation Services for the state of Arkansas. He cared for his parents until their deaths. Now he and his wife, Barbara, plan to spend their time traveling in their R.V. and visiting their grandchildren.

Bette (Davey) Strombeck and Rick Strombeck BS '63 are missionaries in Kiev, Ukraine, with Koinonia Min-istries. For more than 20 years, they worked to establish congregations in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia. They have been working in Ukraine since 1991. They also minister in Russia, Lithuania and Poland.

Gail (Lacy) Trammell retired last year after teaching for 30 years. She now works for Indiana University at Kokomo supervising student teachers.

Velma Kay (Hoover) Sanders BS teaches math, art and health to fifth and sixth grade students at Karnack Elementary School in rural east Texas. James E. Sanders BS '63 is self-employed as a potter and has been working out of his own studio in Marshall for 20 years. He travels to shows throughout the United States. His wheel-thrown pottery is decorative and functional, and well-known in the Southwest. Kay and James will celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary this month. Richard Strickling retired as superintendent from the City of Ashland, Ohio, Water Pollution Control Division, where he worked for 30 years. Sharon (Smith) Strickling is a registered nurse and nurse supervisor at Mansfield Family Practice, where she has worked for 20 years.

Dale Wilson BA was promoted to utilities right-of-way officer for the City of Lakeland (Fla.) Department of Electric Utilities. He has worked for the City of Lakeland for eight years. Velma (Moody) Wilson BA '70 earned a master's degree from the University of South Florida and passed the Florida Educational Leadership Certification. She is a math teacher at McLaughlin Middle School in Lake Wales, Fla. They have three children and three grandchildren.

Dennis Kruse was elected to a seventh term in the Indiana House of Representatives in November. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. He also owns and operates Reppert School of Auctioneering at Kruse Auction Park in Auburn, Ind., and owns Dennis Kruse & Associates, Auctioneers & Real Estate. He is vice president of the Indiana Auctioneers Association.

Doug Shearer is a CPA and CFO of Harmony Systems and Services, Inc., an automotive parts manufacturer in Piqua, Ohio. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. Barbara Weaver Smith BA founded Smith Weaver Smith, Inc., in 1996. The Indianapolis-based firm manages comprehensive community development projects that involve government, nonprofits, businesses and community leaders. The company was recently chosen by The National Fatherhood Initiative to organize regional summits as part of a fatherhood initiative in Indiana.

Paul VanNorman BA took early retirement from Marathon Ashland Petroleum, where he worked for 28 years, and joined Billy Joe Hall (a member of the AU Board of Trustees) at the Investment and Retirement Planning Center in Mt. Sterling, Ky. Paul and Billy Joe are registered financial representatives with Linsco Private Ledger. Paul and Deborah (Lineback) VanNorman BA live in Mt. Sterling.

Earl J. Tharp BA lives on a small farmstead near Arcadia, Ind., with his wife, Cindy. They have two grown sons. Earl is a network manager for One Call Monument Communications, Inc., a Carmel-based telecommunications company. Cindy is a customer service manager for Tipton County Hospital and has a vending business. Earl plays the Native American flute and is a member of the musical ensemble Shilombish, the Indiana Flute Circle and the International Native American Flute Association.

Richard Thompson BA is the IT coordinator for Indiana Soldiers & Sailors Children's Home in Knightstown, Ind., and the senior organist for Faith Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Ind.

Charles Wako BA has been appointed by the government of Kenya to serve as a board director on the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority, the supreme body resolving all issues connected to civil aviation activity in Kenya.

Mark Davis BA, a colonel in the U.S. Marines Corps., is assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA). Steve Miller BA and Pam (Rider) Miller BA moved to Hickory, N.C. Steve is the pastor of worship and arts at Hickory First Church of God. He is in his 30th year of ministry. After directing and teaching preschool for more than 20 years, Pam works for the Bethlehem Post Office and is active in the church.

Pam Bressler Albers BA is a graphics supervisor for the San Diego Association of Govern-ments. Her husband, Wade, works in the printing trade. They live in San Diego and enjoy traveling, camping, hiking, indulging their Australian Shepherd and continually working to restore their historically designated Spanish bungalow. Pam is also an avid quilter and belongs to a group that makes quilts for seriously ill children.

Marguerite (Garasic) Dean lives in Monterey, Calif. She works as a child and adolescent psychotherapist. "One of my specialties is group therapy utilizing the expressive arts therapy process," she writes. "I am a continuing education provider for therapists and offer training workshops on these methods." She is also a professional musician.

Chuck Slaughter BA is working on a master's degree in counseling (corrections or high school) at the University of Wisconsin.

Tim Willoughby BA became the division chaplain for the 24th Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan., in June 2002. He and his wife, Jane, have represented the Church of God for 19 years in the Army Chaplaincy.

Ann (Gossett) Gramlich BA is pastor to families with children at First Church of God in Vero Beach, Fla. Gary Gramlich BA '89 is a creative arts consultant. Gary and Ann also travel to present concerts to kids or offer training and consulting for children's ministry. They have been married 25 years and have two children.

Ray Smith BA retired from the Santa Clara Police Department. He worked as the global manager of investigations for 3Com Corporation. He now works as the executive director of global investigations for Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Donna (Engle) Sting BA teaches primary functional skills at Waterford Elementary in Goshen, Ind. She teaches Sunday school and the junior youth group at Adamsville Road Church of God in Elkhart, Ind. She and her husband, Pat, have two daughters.

Debbie (Mitchell) Galvin BA teaches fourth grade at Salem Christian Academy in Clayton, Ohio. Her husband, Bob, is the assistant city engineer for the City of Vandalia. They have two children.

Stephanie (Garner) Kramer AA resigned in November as executive vice president and human resources director of Garner Transportation. She worked in the family business for 20 years. She now teaches at the University of Findlay Lifelong Educational Center. "This is a very unique intergenerational program, and I am very excited to be a part of it," she writes.

Curt Ferrell serves on the Worship Task Force of the Church of God and is the associate pastor of worship and music at South Memorial Drive Church of God in New Castle, Ind. Curt worked on the third worship CD and songbook project for the Church of God, which was released in June at the North American Convention of the Church of God, and he writes for Warner Press' Bridges curriculum for youth.

Deborah (Flick) Case BA is an office manager and legal assistant at a law firm in Picayune, Miss. Her husband, Craig, is a forester at Stennis Space Center with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers. They have two children and are active in Trinity United Methodist Church in Picayune.

Raetta (Clayton) Madriz graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2002 with a major in communication and minor in psychology. She and her husband, Manuel, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in 2002. "I met Manuel on a Tri-S trip when we were working in his country, Costa Rica," Raetta writes. "He translated for us." They live in Georgia and have three children.

Karen (Moore) Tate BA is an office administrator at Heritage Evangelical Free Church. Roger Tate BA '84 is the chief financial officer at Colorado Christian University in Denver. They live in Castle Rock, Colo., and have three children.

Linda (Nice) Taylor practices law in the Office of Counsel, Savannah (Ga.) District Corps of Engineers. She has four children. Linda is also an Army Reservist and was called to active duty during the war with Iraq.

Becky (Hart) Archibald BA '83, a professional pianist and composer, won the "Best Solo Instrumental CD" award at the Just Plain Folks 2002 Music Awards in March. She earned the award for her latest piano CD, The Long Ride Home. The CD is available through Amazon.com or CDbaby.com. Becky lives in Indiana.

Kristy (Smith) Hemmele BA received a master's degree in human development counseling from Bradley University in 1999. "Then on Dec. 20, 2002, we were blessed with a little boy to move in with us, and we are in the process of adopting," Kristy writes. "I would love to hear from my Anderson College friends. Randy Sarju BA and Joy (Reid) Sarju AA '87, BA '87 have relocated from the Cayman Islands to the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. They have two children.

Laura Scovel-Miller went back to work two years ago after being a stay-at-home-mom. Last year she was promoted to a loan officer at Chaco Credit Union. Daniel Miller '86 is a CAD engineer for MTR, Inc. They live in Hamilton, Ohio, with their three children.

Phill Talavinia BA has been appointed director of athletics at Bluffton College. He will continue as head athletic trainer, a role he's had for the last 18 years.

Michelle (Malan) Wagner and her family have relocated to Cocoa, Fla., where they are building a home. She homeschools her two children, cares for an elderly parent and volunteers at her church. Her husband is a corporate pilot.

Gena (Buskirk) Ford BA is a full-time mom and a part-time wellness coach and personal trainer for the local YMCA. Her husband, Wendell, works for Deloitte & Touche Tax Technologies as an account support representative for the Southeast. He travels occasionally on business, but his office is in their home. Timothy Shaw BA has been named chief information officer for the law firm Barnes & Thornburg in Indanapolis. He will lead technology initiatives and technology support for the firm's offices in seven cities and will supervise an information technology staff of 28 people.

Tom South BA is a youth pastor in Sidney, Ohio. He and his wife, Dana, have five children.

Lisa (Jernigan) Zimber BA lives in Rockford, Ill., with her husband, Scott, and three children. She received her master's degree in education last year. Jeff Nelson BA and his wife, Jill, announce the birth of Elijah Christopher on March 21, 2003. Jeff and Jill also have a 10-year-old daughter. Jeff is a dentist in southern Indiana and has been in private practice for 12 years. Jill is a stay-at-home mom.

Darla (Williams) Pedersen BA received her doctorate in organizational leadership from Regent University. She and her husband, Jens, live in Colorado Springs, Colo., with their daughter.

Mike Pitts BA and his wife, Betsy, adopted a baby girl, Elana Elizabeth, from Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan, in December. They celebrated Elana's first birthday in May.

Kirk "Ben" Engbrecht BA and his wife, Cheryl, announce the birth of Marisa Joy on Jan. 13, 2003. She was welcomed home by sisters Madeline and Mary.

In May 2002, Warren Neff Jr. was selected for an off-camera singing spot on Caroline Film Productions' Touched by an Angel. He was also chosen to sing in Nashville in December at the Gospel Music Association's Jesus, Star of Bethlehem, which aired on public television across the country. He is represented by Dale Garrick International Talent Agency in Los Angeles.

Michael Reynolds BA and Angi (Cox) Reynolds BA '90 announce the birth of their first child, Braedon Eli, on May 2, 2002. "This has been a blessed year watching him grow and change," Michael writes.

Cami (Freed) Schaubroeck BA and her husband, Shawn, adopted a daughter, Abby Mei Hope, from Jiangxi, China. "She is our third daughter but our first adoption," Cami writes. "She was 11 months old when we went to China to bring her home. What an incredible blessing!"

Matt is the school services coordinator for research and exhibition programs at the Indiana Historical Society. Suzanne is a national account manager for Best Access Systems.

Malinda (Hunt) Murphy BA and her husband, Roy, announce the birth of their third child, Victoria Lynn, on Nov. 12, 2001. Malinda received her master's degree in education and teaches third grade in Grosse Ile, Mich.

Daniel Starr BA was elected a partner at Barnes & Thornburg. Daniel is a member of the firm's business, tax and real estate department in Fort Wayne. He concentrates on business and tax planning, mergers, acquisitions and new business formations.

Kristy (Blackburn) Stump BA and Tom Stump '89 announce the birth of their third child, McKenna Renae, born in August 2002. Kristy works from home part time performing court adoptions. Tom works for Ford Motor Company and attends college part time.

Dave Beck BA and his wife, Mindy, announce the births of Cole Jacob and Grace Ann on April 29, 2002. The twins were welcomed home by a brother, Drew. The family lives in Akron, Ohio, where David is a sales representative for Sauder Church Furniture.

Becky (Northey) Colbert BA and her husband, Bruce, welcomed a third child, Meridith Rebecca, on June 25, 2002. Becky has started a new job hand-painting needlepoint canvases. "It is detailed work, but it is enjoyable and I can work at home," Becky writes. Bruce is pastor of programming at Crossbridge Community Church. The family lives in Indiana.

Deana Gilmore BA married Brian Baughman on March 23, 2002.

Kerwin Manning BA and Madelyn (Whittington) Manning BA '92 announce the birth of their second daughter, Morgan Danielle, on Feb. 6, 2003. The family lives in Pasadena, Calif., where Kerwin and Madelyn pastor at the Pasadena Church of God.

Tye Edwards BA co-hosts a weekly sports radio talk show called The Sports Arena with his dad, David Edwards BA '67, on 1240 WHBU. Tye reports from Los Angeles about all of the news from the western part of the country, and David reports from Anderson, Ind., about all of the news from the eastern half. "It's been a great way for us to stay connected," Tye writes. "It's something fun we can do together every week even though we're miles apart." Tye has started his own apparel company, David Tyler Industries, focusing on casual wear for men and women. He also performs stand-up comedy around Los Angeles in various showcases.

Sam Shultz BA attends Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. He is working on a master of divinity degree and a master of arts degree in Christian education and spiritual formation. He is the pastor of Christian education and youth ministries at the Garber Brethren Church in Ashland.

Tiffany Trick BA teaches Spanish at Manassas Park High School in Virginia. "I live in the Washington, D.C., metro area and am loving it here," she writes. "I have found a great supportive church here - Fairfax Community Church."

Julia VanNorman BA was inducted into the West Virginia University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Julia is a graduate student at WVU, where she is pursuing a master's degree in industrial relations. Phi Kappa Phi awards membership to individuals with the highest scholastic standing. Students are nominated from their college or department. Julia also received the Professor and Mrs. Enoch Howard Vickers Graduate Award, which is given annually to an outstanding student in the WVU College of Business and Economics.

Richard Yamabe MDiv '54 retired from Gardner College in Canada, where he was an instructor and dean for 20 years. He edited the church field paper, The Gospel Contact, for 25 years and served as manager of the publishing plant for 15 years. He and his wife, Marianna, have two children.

Frank Hyde MDiv '67 retired from a 24-year teaching career in June. Before teaching he served in the United States Army for 36 years, 30 years as an Army chaplain.

John Stanley BA '65, MDiv '69 is a professor of New Testament at Messiah College. In recent summers, he has served as an interim pastor in Beaver and Carlisle, Va.

Frederick Clemens BA '68, MDiv '72 has come out of retirement to serve the Pickensville United Methodist Church in Pickensville, Ala. He also serves on the board of the Pickensville County Library. His wife, Becky, is a speech pathologist in the Pickens County schools.

Frederick Ours BA '69, MDiv '72 begins his residency in hospital chaplaincy in August at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. He completed nine years as the pastor of Our Savior Lutheran in Piqua, Ohio.

M.N. Nkemakolam MDiv '73 is married with four children and 10 grandchildren. He is the bishop of Foundation Methodist Church Nigeria, Owerri Diocese, Imo State, Nigeria. "I'm interested in receiving letters from the staff and students of AU, and I will very much welcome missionaries who will serve as ophthalmologists and social workers with me," he writes. Steve Stull BA '72, MDiv '77 pastors the East State Street Church of God in Huntington, Ind. Janet (Baker) Stull BA '72 teaches English at Northfield Junior-Senior High School in Wabash County. They have three children.

Tom Yohe MDiv '79 and his wife and two daughters have returned to Moscow to serve in family life ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Doug Talley BA '77, MDiv '80 has served as the senior pastor at Westlake Community Church of God in Indianapolis for 22 years. Cindy (Cole) Talley '77 is the office manager for an OB/GYN physician's office. They have two sons and one granddaughter.

In April 2002, Kerry Hird BA '78, MRE '83 was appointed supervisor of the Guest House, part of the Campus for Human Development in Nashville, Tenn. The Guest House is a residential program for homeless alcoholics and drug addicts who are trying to transition out of substance abuse and into a healthier lifestyle.

Peter Chen MA '81, MDiv '83 served the Indianapolis Chinese Community Church for 19 years. He is now the senior pastor of Evangelical Formosan Church in Orange County, Calif.

Jerry Lewis BA '79, MDiv '83 is the senior pastor of Westwood Church of God in Kalamazoo, Mich. Lisa (Hembrook) Lewis '85 is a homemaker, worship leader and occasional office assistant. They have two sons.

Lewis Worthington MDiv '83 and Renita (Waller) Worthington BA '83 started a new church in Grand Blanc, Mich. They have two children.

James Fearnow BA '76, MDiv '84 is a certified clinical chaplain at Central Texas Veterans Healthcare and a resource English teacher at Ellison High School. He sings in the United Methodist Church Choir and serves on the board of directors for the Central Texas Lions Eye Bank.

Steven Horner BA '80, MDiv '85 married Charlotte Akers AS '90 on Feb. 16, 2003. Steven is a chaplain with Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Fla. Charlotte is a nurse supervisor for the hospice unit of Shell Point Retirement Community in Fort Myers.

James L. Wong MA '88 has retired from full-time service to the church, but he and his wife continue to serve by counseling young people, participating in missions to a restricted access country in East Asia and helping out in an international missions organization. They also enjoy spending time with their two grandchildren. "I am still praying for the Lord's healing on my lower spine problem so I can make another trip to Anderson to visit with our dear old friends there and to attend the annual Anderson campmeeting," James writes.

Steven Rennick MRE '88, MDiv '89 has been named the senior pastor at Church at the Crossing in Indianapolis. Steven returns to the United States after serving seven years in Kenya as president of the Kima International School of Theology. Steven and his wife, Diane, have three children.

Don Taylor MDiv '89 was named executive director of resources and systems by World Gospel Mission in Marion, Ind., in October. His wife, Pam, a former resident director of Martin Hall at AU, manages the materials development processes for Guide Corp. They live in Anderson, Ind.

Ken Cordle BA '88, MRE '92 earned a master's degree in human resource education from the University of Louisville and has since obtained certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). He is the director of human resources for Interstate Hotels and Resorts. He also serves as the organist/choir director at Grace Immanual United Church of Christ. In his spare time, he is renovating another old house. He lives in Louisville, Ky.

William Wimmer MDiv '97 pastors First Church of God in Tallmadge, Ohio. He and his wife, Cindy, have three sons.
