M. Jane Badford BA has retired her police uniform. She writes, “Having been employed since 1945, I feel funny not getting up to go to work each morning.” Jane lives on the fifth floor of a retirement building overlooking the beautiful Tennessee River.

Gerald Coomer BS has written several books since retiring from college teaching. “If any of my classmates are interested, my books are listed for sale on amazon.com and borders.com,” he writes.

Jim Bailey BA retired after 42 years at The Herald Bulletin, where he held a variety of writing and editorial positions. “My last position was as a reporter covering the fast-growing southern and western Madison County area. I will continue to write my weekly column for The Herald Bulletin,” he says.
Darrell Walling BS received the 2004 Salesperson of the Year award from the Virginia Peninsula Association of Realtors. He came in first among 1,400 realtors. In 1989, Darrell retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of colonel. He established his real estate business in 1992 and is currently with Rose & Womble Realty in Newport News, Va.

Douglas Banning BS retired from Prairie Farms Dairy (previously Best-Ever Dairy) in June 2004 after 44 years of service. He held the position of general manager for 12 years before retiring.

Robert Moody BA received his Master of Divinity degree on Dec. 10, 2004, from Lake Charles Bible College in Lake Charles, La. He is now completing a Doctor of Ministry degree.

Beverley (Miller) Pitts BA has been hired as the president of the University of Indianapolis, a private university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. She is the first female and non-Methodist to hold this position at the university. Beverley started her new position on July 5. She was previously the provost at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.

Loleta (Moak) Masters BS recently became a nationally certified mathematics teacher. She has been teaching high school math in Bay County, Fla., for 33 years. She teaches college-level courses at the high school.

Keith Hossler BA is a home health nurse in Thurston County, Wa. He is still active as an on-call embalmer with a local funeral home.
Marsha Whitesel Owen and her husband, Carl, have been riding a motorcycle together for nearly 28 years. Marsha writes, “As empty-nesters, we are riding much more.” They have been members of the National Christian Motorcyclists Association for one year. The NCMA is a ministry focused on winning hearts for Christ. Carl is the vice president of their chapter. Marsha enjoys doing creative things, mostly with photography, scrapbooking, sewing, and working on her Mac. Her son, Garrett, and daughter, Lindsey, attend Kansas University.

Kathie (Hillenburg) Whitesel BA is a freelance artist. She is also a woman’s Bible study leader and lecturer and in a parent mentoring group at Grace Baptist Church in Hudson, Mass. Her husband, Don, is the minister of pastoral care at the church.

Denny Moore BA and his wife, Faith, live in Noblesville, Ind. Denny is a real-estate broker for Century 21 Realty Group One in Indianapolis. He has been an agent for the past 15 years. He attained the award of Centurion six out of the past seven years with Century 21. Faith is the office manager for an oral surgeon in Noblesville. Denny still enjoys playing ice hockey, golf, fishing, and has coached baseball and ice hockey. The family attends White River Christian Church in Noblesville. Val (Johnston) Johnson BA became an ordained minister in 2001 and a state certified sign language interpreter in 2003. She resigned from Ford Motor Company to start a non-profit organization, Touching the Nations Deaf Ministries Inc. The organization’s main goal is to bridge the communication gap between the deaf world and the hearing world, with an emphasis on the church. They offer assistance to churches to establish deaf ministries, assist the deaf with their needs, advocate for the deaf, and provide sign language classes, workshops, and conferences.

Jennifer (Strawn) Turley ASN moved into a new home in Lancaster, Ohio. She works as a trauma nurse at Grant Medical Center, a level-one trauma center. Her interests include church activities, needlework, socializing with friends, and reading, and she is very interested in alternative and holistic medicine. She is active in the First Church of God in Lancaster, with special interest in women’s ministries. Kimberly Gray Buck BA and her husband, Daryl, announce the birth of Grayson Robert on Feb. 25, 2005.
Cozette Mashue has worked with Covenant Players (an international Christian repertory theatre ministry) for 10 years. She has served several places in the United States and Canada, as well as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea. For the last two years, she has been in Europe and is currently serving in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia.
Nancy Bush Morrison BA received her master’s degree in elementary education with an endorsement in English as a second language. She teaches third grade in a rural Kansas town while her husband, Kent, works as a counselor for kindergarten through sixth grade at the same school. They have two daughters, Jorie, 13, and Jill, 10, “who make us proud as they excel in academics and sports.”

Sam Swaim BA was elected judge of the Parke Circuit Court in Rockville, Ind. Sam writes, “My time at AU certainly contributed to any success I’ve had in life so far. I can still hear Coach Manly say, ‘Men, you need to have balance in your life.’ I try to live accordingly.”

Kim (McMillan) Norton recently resigned from her position as worship leader at Eagle Point Church of God in Little Rock, Ark., to pursue a full-time ministry as a recording artist and evangelist. Her first project, Cherish Life, was released Jan. 1. On Feb. 22, she participated in a live one-hour national interview on American Family Radio.

Stephanie Renner Gilford BA has been named to the board of directors for AIDS Volunteers Inc., a community-based organization that provides HIV and AIDS education, prevention initiatives, service programs, and financial assistance to people infected with HIV. Stephanie is an associate with Stites & Harbison’s Lexington, Ky., office. She works in the firm’s torts and insurance practice service group.

Joy Blackburn BA married Matthew Callison on April 3, 2004. Joy writes, “The event was even more special because Matt had suddenly become very ill in the fall before our wedding and needed to have a heart transplant. He received a new heart on Dec. 29, 2003.” The San Francisco Chronicle featured their story. “We’ve had a lot to adjust to in the past year or so and a lot to figure out, but we feel really blessed at how God has provided for us in the midst of really terrifying circumstances.”

Kyle Minor BA was awarded second place in The Atlantic Monthly’s 2004 student writing contest. It is one of the most prestigious literary prizes available to students anywhere in the world. Kyle’s short fiction and essays have recently appeared in Quarterly West, The Carolina Quarterly, Pindeldyboz, and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency. He teaches undergraduate writing courses at The Ohio State University, where he is completing an MFA in creative writing and edits the literary journal The Frostproof Review. Amber (Webnar) Noggle BSN and her husband, Todd, announce the birth of their first child, Alana Lea, on Oct. 20, 2004. She was welcomed home by a pet English mastiff named Makana. Leslie Hollar graduated from Miami University in Ohio in 2002 and continued her graduate work there, graduating in 2004. She majored in statistics. She now works for HSBC as a credit risk analyst. She was recognized for outstanding performance in 2004 and professional of the month in February 2005.
Jenny Kardatzke BA married Chad Rasmussen on Sept. 18, 2004, at Church at the Crossing in Indianapolis. The reception was at the Crowne Plaza. Alumni participating in the ceremony included Amy Smith BA, Jeremy Herrmann BA, and Jennifer Herrman BA ’00, as well as AU student Matt Kardatzke. Jenny writes, “Chad and I love being married.” Jenny works in the Ann Arbor Public School system as a doctoral intern in school psychology. She and Chad are both working on dissertations to finish their doctorates. “Although that keeps us busy, we also volunteer at our church and host a Bible study.”

Kate (Sullivan) Holland BA participated in the wedding, along with Mia and Molly Romine, daughters of Kristi Staley BA and James BA ’98 Romine. Catherine and Ben live in Athens, Ohio, where Catherine works for a ministry serving the homeless. Ben is finishing his degree in computer science at Ohio University.

Allison Luellen BSN married Adam Morgan on Oct. 9, 2004, in Indianapolis. They honeymooned on the Hawaiian Islands, where they first met while Allison was on assignment as a travel nurse and Adam was stationed in the Marine Corps. Allison works in the cardiovascular-thoracic intensive care unit at St. Vincent Hospital. Adam is an independent sales associate for Aflac insurance and a full-time college student. They live in Fishers, Ind.

Tara (Helfrich) Howard will complete a master’s degree in early childhood education this summer. Her husband, Nathan, is finishing his degree in computer science. With their schooling nearly complete, Tara writes, “We look forward to having more time to catch up with old friends.” She is working as a developmental therapist in the birth to 3 early intervention system in Illinois.

Jason Porzelius BA and Michelle (Grohmann) Porzelius announce the birth of their first child, Benjamin Ray, on July 6, 2004. Jason is working on a master’s degree in agribusiness at Illinois State University. He hopes to graduate in the fall of 2006. He also founded and is directing a sports ministry at his church.
Scott Rees BA has been a writer and columnist for the Lansing Community Newspapers for the past two years. The company has a network of 13 newspapers in Lansing, Mich., with a circulation of about 100,000. Scott writes, “I have resurrected ‘Rees’ Pieces,’ which was my weekly column that was born in the pages of the Andersonian. I feel so blessed. Mid-Michigan today… tomorrow the world!”
Jenni Reilly BA married Jason Shaffer BA ’02 on June 29, 2002. Alumni in the wedding party included Amanda Babb BA ’02, Holly Farmer, Monica Shay BSN, Laura Vanderwiede BA, Aimee Briski BA, Jason Varner BA ’02, Lief Nunneley BA ’02, Joe Wisley BA ’03, Dave Pepsny BA ’02, and Chris Cox BA ’03. Jenni and Jason spent their first two married years in Huntington, Ind., where Jenni was a resident director at Huntington University and Jason completed his master’s degree in educational ministries. They are now doing inner-city ministry in Atlanta.

Amy Mock BA married Scott Coryell on March 19, 2005. In addition to her 1-year-old son, she now has a 3-year-old stepson. Amy has changed jobs and now works at La Petite Academy in Fishers as a teacher for 2 year olds.

Joshua Gregory BA took basic and advanced infantry training in the United States Army at Ft. Benning, Ga. He is currently stationed at Ft. Hood, but is expected to be deployed to Iraq in November.
Kelly Green BA married Paul Stephens BA ’03 on May 22, 2004. Paul completed his master’s degree in student affairs administration in higher education at Ball State University. He is a resident director at Asbury College. Kelly is a graphic designer and public relations assistant at Asbury College.

78 - Karl Hartmann MRE received the Heart of Ohio Award at the Ohio Hospice & Palliative Care Organization Annual Conference. Karl was one of two hospice employees recognized by OHPCO for excellence in practice. Karl pastored for 28 years before going into the hospice chaplaincy ministry full time in 1999.
Betty Ruth Tippin BA ’75, MDiv writes that the first two volumes of Dr. Kenneth R. Tippin’s five volume work on Church of God history have been published posthumously. Kenneth received his undergraduate degree at AU in 1976 and his MDiv from the SOT in 1979.
81 - Tom Fuller MDiv is serving as brigade chaplain for the 155th Brigade from the State of Mississippi in Kalsu, Iraq. He has been appointed and approved for a promotion to colonel.

95 - Diana (Anderson) Stover AA ’78, BA ’78, MRE ’85, MDiv and Paul Stover MDiv ’85 are enjoying “retirement-like” living since Paul’s yearlong fight with multiple myeloma. Diana writes, “God did marvelous things to Paul’s body, which has led to a nearly complete remission.” Diana works as a Hospice chaplain with William Beaumont Hospital. They travel as often as possible. They attend Metropolitan Church of God in Detroit. Their son, Jacob, is completing his first year at Wayne State University.
