Book Review: Musing with David
By: Randy Dillinger
In his new book, Musing with David, Anderson University School of Theology professor Dr. Barry Ross invites readers to a fresh encounter with the Psalms. Through 50 brief, meditative studies that cover 20 different psalms, ranging from Psalm 1 to Psalm 149, Ross offers insightful wisdom seasoned with brief glimpses of his own spiritual journey.
Originally written for translation into Japanese for serial publication in Immanuel Kyoho, a monthly publication of the Immanuel Church of Japan, Ross has significantly revised the text for this volume, which was published by Fountain Press in Pune, India, an affiliate of Union Biblical Seminary in Pune, where Ross had taught before coming to the School of Theology.
A professor of Old Testament studies, Ross presents a full-faceted view of the Christian faith through these studies, showing at times how various themes found in the Psalms are echoed or completed in the New Testament. He includes just enough background information into the Hebrew language and culture to provide a context for these studies.
Ross writes in a personal and conversational manner, at times venturing into thoughtful meanderings and reflections on his own life experiences. Throughout the book, it is evident that Ross is thoroughly enjoying the journey he has undertaken.
For those who wish to grow more deeply in their devotion to God and in their understanding of God’s Word, there is encouragement, wisdom, and inspiration to be found in these pages.
Musing with David may be ordered directly from Ross for $15 per copy. For more information, call (765) 641-4523 or send an e-mail to blross@anderson.edu. To read one of the 50 studies from Musing with David, please click here..
