Fannie (Akers) Goldy '45 died Sept. 25, 2003, in Anderson, Ind., following an extended illness. She worked in a Veteran Affairs hospital in Wichita, Kan. She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Miller and Charlotte Goldy; one stepdaughter, Rose Dicken; one brother, Richard Akers; one sister, Arlene (Akers) Mauch BA '47; one grandson; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Goldy, in 2001.

Donald G. Pyle '47 died Aug. 20, 2003. He lived in Lakewood, Colo. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree from Denver University and a master's degree from Ball State University. He coached and taught in Anderson schools from 1956 to 1964 and coached the AU football team for two years in the early 1960s. He was assistant principal and athletic director at Wheat Ridge High School from 1964 to 1985. From 1986 until the time of his death, he was the Colorado admissions counselor for the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Survivors include his wife, Jean Rash Pyle; two daughters, Kerry Williams and Kathy Zablocki; a son, Mike Pyle; a sister, Charlyse (Pyle) Lipman '48; two brothers, Merrill Pyle BA '57 and Kendall Pyle BS '63; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Donald B. Cantrell '48 died Nov. 7, 2003, in Ulysses, Kan. He served in the United States Army in the 100th Infantry Division during World War II. He graduated first in his class at Colorado University Pharmacy School in 1952. He was owner and pharmacist of Cantrell Pharmacy in Ulysses. He belonged to the Patterson Avenue Church of God, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the board of trustees. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Lykins) Cantrell '48; two daughters, Denise Cantrell BA '76 and Cynthia (Cantrell) Douglas BA '73; two brothers, the Rev. Robert Cantrell '42 and Dr. Glenn Cantrell '53; and two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Eileen Cantrell.

Beatrice Toon Freitag BS '48 died Oct. 18, 2003, in Huntsville, Ala. She was a Christian educator, serving at Central Park Church of God in Houston, Texas, and First Church of God in Huntsville. While at student at AU, she worked for the Gospel Trumpet Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Freitag; a brother, Walter Toon; and a sister, Pearl Toon Smith. She is survived by a brother, James Toon BS '50; one half-brother, Jerry Toon; four stepchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph C. Anderson BS '50 died Sept., 7, 2003. He earned his graduate degree at Ball State University. He was a teacher, coach and principal in the Anderson community schools for 36 years, retiring as principal of East Side Middle School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was living in Holmes Beach, Fla., at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Cleda Anderson BA '46, retired vice president of student life at AU; two daughters, Dr. Rebecca Anderson '71 and Laurie Anderson BA '78; a son, Dr. Rodney Anderson BA '72; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Freda Morrison and Joyce Bookout.

Velma Maxine Schneider BS '50 died June 30, 2003, in St. Louis, Mo. After graduating from AU, she taught for two years in the Anderson public school system. In August 1952 she went to Kenya and spent the next 15 years as a missionary at the Bunyore Girls School. She earned a master's degree in early childhood education at Washington University in St. Louis while on furlough. In 1967 she returned to St. Louis and taught first grade until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the South Side Church of God in St. Louis and founded the Jireh Scholarship Fund to help South Side students attend college. She is survived by two brothers, the Rev. Charles Schneider BA '53 and John Dale Schneider; a sister, Virginia Schneider Johndrow; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille A. Strawn BA '50 died Dec. 4, 2003, in Anderson, Ind. Born in Kansas, she came to Anderson as a college student. After two years of teaching high school business in Illinois, she returned to Indiana. She served 37 years with the university, the last 15 years as university registrar. Upon her retirement in 1989, she was honored with the title of registrar emeritus from the Anderson University Board of Trustees. In 1987, she received the John H. Kane Loyalty Award from the university's alumni association. She was a member of Park Place Church of God. She is survived by a step-broter, Robert Hurst BS '48; a brother-in-law, Dr. Robert H. Reardon BA '40; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dr. H. Darrel Darby '52 died Nov. 18, 2003. He was a podiatrist in private practice in Huntington, W.Va., from 1956 until 1996 and was serving on the AU Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He was a graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a member of the Trinity Church of God in Huntington and a member of the church council and an adult Sunday school teacher. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1945 until 1947. He served on several national medical association boards and received many honors for his work as a podiatrist and leader. In 1972 he was elected to the West Virginia State Senate. He is survived by his wife, Laura Boggs; two sons, Michael Darby '68 and Darrel Darby II; four daughters, Ann Getty, Beth Upton, Sandra (Darby) Smith AA '81, and Linette Heydinger; four brothers, Richard Darby, Randall Darby, Arthur Darby, and Gary Darby; a sister, Glenna Nelson; and 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ralph Minton '52 died Sept. 16, 2003. He had been an Anderson, Ind., resident since the early 1950s. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a machine operator for Delco Remy Division of General Motors for 26 years before retiring in 1980. He was a salesman and real estate broker for 43 years. He attended South Meridian Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Edith Eileen (Hauenstein) Minton, on Oct. 22, 2002. He is survived by 10 children, Bonnie Wright, Carol (Minton) Cammack BA '67, Monta Bright, Pauline Ila Vancil, Susan (Minton) Morgan BA '79, David Minton, Terry Minton BA '71, John Minton, Martin Minton, and Ben Minton BA '76; 17 grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Paul A. Freeland BTh '54 died Aug. 25, 2003. He lived in Independence, Mo. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Church of God pastor for 46 years, serving congregations in Kansas and Missouri. For 15 of those years, he was also a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Kansas City, Mo. He retired from full-time ministry in 2000. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Edna Mae; a son, Tom Freeland '77; three daughters, Elaine (Freeland) Swanigan '74, Janelle (Freeland) Irwin '79, and Beth (Freeland) Hatch BA '89; and eight grandchildren.

Floyd "John" Bell Windsor '66 died Aug. 16, 2003, in Columbia, Mo. He was an emergency medical technician for University Hospital, an EMT instructor for the state of Missouri, a volunteer firefighter, and an ironworker. He was a member of Christian Chapel and was active in the church prison ministry. Survivors include his parents, Bill and Connie Windsor; a daughter, Stacie Friedrich; two sons, Jason Windsor and Jonathan Windsor; a brother, Gerold Windsor; and five grandchildren.

Harold A. Smith BA '67 died Sept. 25, 2003. He lived in Michigan City, Ind., at the time of his death. He was the owner/operator of The Historic 1866 Feallock House Bed and Breakfast. He was regional supervisor of Rochester Midland Chemical and a former Anderson City policeman and Madison County sheriff's deputy. He was a former undercover agent for the ATF, Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Sandin) Smith; parents, Harold and LaVerne Smith; a daughter, Pamela Pearson; a son, Andrew Smith; three stepchildren, Jay Toyra, Jeffrey Toyra, and Jacqueline King; a brother, Walter Smith BA '66; a sister, Nancy Carter '66; and 13 grandchildren.

Melvyn J. Williams BA '67 died Aug. 28, 2003, in Anderson, Ind. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Delphi-E as a supervisor of skilled trades after 30 years of employment. He began attending Sherman Street Church of God in Anderson as a youth, where he played on the basketball team and served as pianist for several years. He is survived by three aunts, Letha Dix, Katherine Hunter, and Ruth Robinson; an uncle, Kenny Williams; and one niece and three nephews.

John William Sutherland BA '69 died Sept. 30, 2003. He lived in East Lyme, Conn. After graduating from AU, he attended the School of Theology. He was a project engineering assistant at Electric Boat, where he worked for more than 30 years. He loved music and used his talents to direct the bell choir at Niantic Community Church and to serve as choir director in many churches over the years. At the time of his death, he was serving at the Flanders Baptist and Community Church in East Lyme. He is survived by his wife, Linda Fraser Arcarese; a daughter, Julie Sutherland; a son, Peter Sutherland; three stepchildren, Michael Arcarese, Joanna Gandenberger, and Brian Arcarese; two grandsons, J.R. and Benjamin Gandenberger; and one brother, Daniel Sutherland.

Ruthann (Epperly) Robertson AS '79 died Oct. 3, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Anderson, Ind., a retired registered nurse from Community Hospital, and a member of North Anderson Church of God. She is survived by her husband, James Robertson; a son, James Robertson Jr.; her mother, Phyllis Epperly; two brothers, James Epperly and Robert Epperly; and a sister, Charlene Vanover.

James David "J.D" Christle BA '80 died July 21, 2000, in Venice, Fla., following a heart attack. While a student at AU, he was active in the Student Activities Department and instrumental in building The Clearing. After earning his bachelor's degree, he served in administrative positions at Pikeville College in Pikeville, Ky., and at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. At the time of his death, he was an activity director for the Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department. He is survived by his mother, Lucy, and three brothers.

Carole E. Gammon '84 died Oct. 24, 2003, in Anderson, Ind. She was a nurse at St. John's Medical Center in Anderson. She is survived by a brother, Mike Gammon; a sister, Paula A. Wills; and several nieces and nephews.

Jonathan E. Collier MAcc '03 died July 15, 2003. He lived in Markleville, Ind. He was a certified public accountant with Robinson & Company in Anderson, Ind. He received his bachelor's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1991. He was a member of Abounding Grace Fellowship in Anderson and attended North Anderson Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly (Hudson) Collier; three sons, Joshua Collier, Tyler Collier, and Nathan Collier; his mother, Ruth (Clifford) Collier; and seven nieces and nephews.

Mildred Conner died Oct. 17, 2003, in Loveland, Colo. She was a graduate of St. John's Nursing School in Anderson, Ind., and worked as the director of student health services at AU for more than 20 years before retiring. She is survived by a daughter, Kellee Conner James; two grandsons; and a sister, Juanita Parkinson.

Dr. Marvin Lindemuth died Oct. 22, 2003, in Centralia, Wash. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He spent more than 50 years working in the field of education - from elementary schools to colleges. He taught at AU for 20 years, retiring in 1989 as the director of teacher education. He is survived by his wife, Sara Lindemuth; a son, David Lindemuth BA '71; a daughter, Jane Fitzpatrick; a brother, Irvin Lindemuth; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tom Tucker died Oct. 18, 2003. He was a clinical social worker at AU. He was a member of the Westside Church of The Nazarene, where he was the director of the missions team. He received his undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University and his master's degree from the University of Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Ann Tucker; daughters, Kelly Tucker and Kimberly Combs; mother, Mary Tucker; and brother, Paul (Joe) Tucker.
