Building for the future
By Bart Caylor, AU Alumni Council President
When was the last time you played with blocks? Last evening, my young sons and I were building the “tallest tower in the world” (their description, not mine). With each block laid, their eyes were wide with excitement. As long as we kept a strong, wide base supporting the tower, we could successfully add each individual block to the top. They were thrilled with the heights we could achieve as long as we were on a solid base.
Our role as alumni is similar. The wide support base we provide to Anderson University affects each individual student who steps on campus. At one point, we were where they are today: starting orientation as a freshman, coming onto campus as a transfer student or adult student, entering into a graduate level class for the first time. Through our transition to alumni status, we have become a critical part of the base of support to see that tradition continue.
As I begin my term as Alumni Council president, I look forward to building upon the leadership of past council presidents. I want to help the council find ways to provide AU with the support base needed to help each individual student succeed. As a council, our goals include the continued development and utilization of an AU alumni volunteer network to assist the school throughout the country; the introduction and development of a mentoring network linking current students with AU alumni within their field of study; and the development of opportunities for alumni to participate in Tri-S and reconnect with AU in new and exciting ways.
