Hazel (Dodge) Hustine moved into an assisted living facility in Colorado a year after her husband died. Her son, Russell, and his wife, Holly, have three children. The two oldest grandchildren live in Tulsa, while Russell, Holly, and the youngest son live in Bartlesville, Okla. Her son, Mark, and his wife, Bonnie, have three children. Paul Yerden BS and Rita Jo (Hankins) Yerden BS live in Phoenix, Ariz., where Paul serves part-time as senior adult pastor at North Hills Church of God. They recently released an organ-piano CD, Jesus, Name I Love, which features more than 68 minutes of favorite hymns and gospel songs. They are contributing all proceeds from this project to student scholarships at West Indies Theological College (WITC) in Trinidad. Loretta Bullock Fleming BA retired in May after a 25-year teaching career. She taught Latin for the past 20 years. She and her husband, Bruce, have three children — Barbara Noelle Bandy, Mary Brook Hicks, and Bruce Fleming III — and six grandchildren. Bruce II is retired from 30 years in the Navy and 10 years of self-employment. Lori and Bruce shut down their home of 20 years and moved aboard a sailboat. They hope to move S/V Buon Giorno along the Atlantic coast devoting time to prayer and study.

Pamela (Snapp) Black BA graduated first in her class from Butler Community College’s nursing program on May 19, 2005. She passed the state board examination in July and is now a registered nurse working on a very busy orthopedic, pediatric, medical/surgical floor of Butler Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania.

David Clifford BA was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer of a public company (CKN) on the American Stock Exchange on Jan. 1, 2005.

Deborah (Good) Hunnicutt BS writes, “After spending years in management, the travel industry, and teaching at the junior college level, God led me into Christian education.” Ten years ago, she helped start an independent Christian school. The first eight years, they did not charge tuition. “Now we charge tuition on a sliding scale, which allows us to minister to families of all income levels but creates a higher level of accountability,” Deborah explains. “I’m so grateful that God has allowed me the opportunity to minister to the most amazing young people one would ever meet.”

Nancy (Dunham) Lake BA, AS and her husband, Bob, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary last summer. Nancy was also nationally certified in oncology last year.

Janet (Lopp) Harmon BA writes, “After 17 years in a managerial position with the U.S. Census Bureau, I decided I needed a change. In May 2005, I became a volunteer coordinator for the New Albany, Ind., office of VistaCare, a leading provider of hospice services. I had been volunteering with them for two years when the opportunity arose to come on staff. It’s a blessing to work with terminally ill patients and their families and have an opportunity to make a difference.”

Doug Lucy BA has pastored the E. 16th Street Church of God for the past five years. Two of his children — Jordan and Tara — are in college. Blake is a junior in high school and Ali is a sophomore. Edward “Eddie” Cumberbatch BA lives in Santa Cruz, Trinidad — near Port-of-Spain — with his wife, Rhonda, and two daughters, Elysia (4) and Richelle (2). Eddie teaches mathematics and physics at St. Mary’s College in Port-of-Spain and continues a vigorous singing career. He recently came to the United States and recorded a CD, The Lord is my Light, which was released in October. Mary (Henley) Carter BA has been teaching elementary school for six years. Her son, Tanner, became a corporal in the U.S. Marines on Aug. 1, 2005. He has completed and safely returned from two tours in Iraq. He left the Marines in November to pursue his education. Mary has also returned to school to pursue a master’s degree in education. Ernie Hobbs Jr. BA and Shawna (Thomas) Hobbs BA announce the birth of their third child, Ian David, in March 2005. His brother, Trey, and sister, Meghan, were delighted to have another sibling to play with. Shawna is a stay-at-home mom. She also coordinates the local Mothers of Preschoolers group and teaches piano lessons. Ernie is the IS department manager at Worth Sports in Tullahoma, Tenn. The family loves living in the South, close to Shawna’s family. They attend King’s Cross Church and are on the worship team; Ernie plays bass guitar, while Shawna plays keyboard and sings.

Kristen (Salisbury) Laird AA, BA and Tim Laird ’92 moved into their new home near Wooster, Ohio. They and their three children — Sarah, 7, Amanda, 5, and Joshua, 2 — love the wooded 10-acres for exploring and the privacy it gives. Karin Giesbrecht BA married Scott Simmons on Aug. 12, 2005. They live in Tennessee and are both self-employed. Scott is a film and video editor, and Karin works as a musician, piano teacher, and worship leader. “We are happy,” Karin writes. “Life is good!”

Jeffrey Hartman will be singing the leading role of Nemorino in L’elisir D’amore with the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera. He will also be singing Rodolfo in LaBhome, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and directing Suor Angelica with New York Opera Singers Association Inc. He has been studying voice with Evelyn La Quaif, daughter of Metropolitan Opera Diva Ms. Lucine Amara, and with Theodore Lambrinos of the Met. Jeffrey writes, “I have been heralded as being ‘one of the fastest rising tenor stars on the opera horizon today.’” He won first place in the Dicapo Opera Theatre Competition in 2003 and placed third in the New Jersey Verismo Opera Competition in 2005. Michelle (Barthelemy) Braun BSN and her husband, Dave, announce the birth of Sarah Anne on May 4, 2005. Brothers Benjamin, 5, and Jacob, 3, are excited about having a little sister. Breeden on Aug. 26, 2005, in a sunset ceremony on a bluff overlooking the ocean at El Conquistador Resort Hotel in Puerto Rico, where they honeymooned thereafter for three weeks. Marcus is an actor/writer/producer in Hollywood, Calif. Lori maintains a private practice as a psychologist in Los Angeles. They live in North Hollywood. Julie (Claasen) Zaragoza BA was matron of honor. In May 2005, Janelle and Guillermo graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary. Janelle received a Master of Arts in counseling, and Guillermo received degrees in theological studies and Christian thought. They live in Guillermo’s hometown of Toluca. They are looking for a church to pastor but are also considering moving to Argentina, where Guillermo will further his studies.

Collette (Brannon) Bronkella BA and Joe Bronkella BA announce the birth of Grace Johanna on Feb. 28, 2005, in Stuart, Fla. The family has moved back to Indiana, where Joe teaches at Columbus East High School and Collette is a stay-at-home mom.

Sarah Lipps BA married Dan Ropte on Aug. 3, 2002. Tiffany Fisher BA ’03 participated in the wedding. Sarah works at a learning center with children of all ages and abilities. In March 2005, her family experienced the painful and tragic loss of her brother, Scott, 19.

Holly (Farmer) Moneymaker BA and Collin Moneymaker BA ’01 moved to Miami, Fla., in March. They live in South Miami Beach and are employed by Miami-Dade County School District as reading intervention progress monitors. Both Collin and Holly received alternative teaching certification in the state of Florida and will be pursuing teaching opportunities in the near future.

Sarah Morley BA moved to Florida in May. She works as a family care manager for Kids Central Inc. She’s been a co-writer for two grants in Indianapolis. Both grants are worth more than $1 million. She also teaches workshops on working with foster youth.

Erin Pickering BA moved to Greenville, S.C., at the end of 2003 and has been working with Edward Jones as a branch office administrator for more than six months. Erin is very happy in the South. She teaches voice and piano part time and has 10 students.

Jessica Smith BA graduated from Boston College with a master’s degree in English. She is working part time on a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing through Seattle Pacific University. She explains, “It’s a low-residency program, so I can live and work in New York.”

Maria Egnatz BA married Aaron Alexander BA ’05 on July 9, 2005. They live in Anderson, Ind. Aaron works in Muncie as a computer systems analyst for Ontario Systems. Maria is a youth minister at Anderson Church of the Brethren.
