Paul Hader BA pastored for 40 years in the Church of God in New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma. He was forced by ill health to retire in 1994, and he remains in an invalid state. Friends may contact him at roswastis@cox.net.

Ruben Schwieger retired in June as a tenured professor of mathematics at the University of Southern Indiana after more than 33 hears of high school and university teaching. His teaching included four years of high school teaching in Kenya and a year as a Fulbright scholar in Ghana, West Africa. He was also a pastor or co-pastor for 23 years in Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana. Jenny (Livingston) Schwieger BS also retired in June from pastoring and teaching. Jenny has been pastor of three churches in Indiana and Kentucky, serving for more than 21 years, most recently in Princeton, Ind. Her role as pastor followed 14 years of public and private school teaching at the grade school level. The Schwiegers now make their home in Anderson, Ind., and continue to be involved in international missions activities.

Twila Tucker Briscoe BA was named Child Care Administrator of the Year by the Southwest Virginia Association for Early Childhood Education. Twila is the administrator of Alpha Christian Child Care Centers in Hollins and has been caring for children in the childcare industry for more than 41 years. Jerry Childers BA has retired from teaching after 38 years. His career included coaching high school football for 22 years, wrestling for 18 years, and baseball for 25 years. He was also a work co-op teacher for 30 years.

Linda (Hilyard) Fasel BA completed her Doctor of Education in August 2007 from Argosy University. Her concentration was in higher education curriculum and instruction. Her research involved identifying persistence traits of college-age bodily kinesthetic learners. She is an associate professor in the Teacher Education Department at Warner Southern College. She was named Polk County Teacher of the Year at Warner Southern College in 2005. Linda is married to Terry Fasel SOT ’71. They have a son, Jeremy, and a daughter, Sara (Fasel) Kane BA ’98.

Terry Lee Neal BA has submitted his first children’s adventure story for publication. It has been picked up by PublishAmerica and is selling around the world. The Find It Club can be purchased on Amazon. Terry wrote the story to encourage his grandchild to read. The story is about a group of children who find those things that have been lost. In doing so, the children solve a murder mystery and help capture a man who has swindled people out of thousands of dollars. Children ages 9 to 12 are the target audience. According to Terry, book companies around the world have given the book a five-star rating.

Sadie Beth Evans BA writes, “After teaching Title I remedial teaching and math, English as a second language, and theatre for the last 32 years, I retired in May 2007 to assume the role of secretary/treasurer for the Historical Society of the Church of God, for which I was ratified at the 2006 annual meeting of the Historical Society. I praise the Lord for allowing me to be his hands and feet all of these years in such a variety of ways.”

Chuck Slaughter BA is pastoring the First United Church of God in Rockford, Ill. In May, he graduated from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix with a Master of Education in special education. He teaches at Freeport High School in Freeport, Ill., and is also the boy’s basketball coach at Durand High School. His wife, Debra, is program director of the pharmacy tech program at Rockford Business College. Kay (Wixom) Tira BA is the editor of The Contact newspaper for the Churches of God in Oregon and southwest Washington. Debbie (Fuller) Thomas announces that her first novel, Tuesday Night at the Blue Moon, will be released in May by Moody Publishers. Don Thomas BA has acquired a franchise with Kei Window Cleaning in the Sacramento area. Their daughter, Megan, is an animation major at San Jose State. Their son, Ian, is in the Marine Reserves.

Mike “Harry” Gerig BA hosted a gathering of alumni in Auburn, Ind., on July 26-29. Denny Huebner BA ’79, Joe “The Toe” Williams, Bubba “Roy” Smith BA, Phil Hackett BA, Bob Henry BA ’79, and Dave Courtney BA all gathered for a 4-day, 90-hole marathon. The gathering was a splinter group of the Anderson Outlaw Alumni that includes Garry Zick BA, Brad Rhoades BA ’77, Rick Schrecengost BA ’77, Larry BA ’77 and Lynden Carter BA ’78, Jerry Fox BA ’79, and Scott Zebedis BA ’79. The entire group spends a weekend in Denver every spring to gather, laugh, and eat.
Daniel Niswander is a producer, host, and performer in online video shows, including Niswander’s Fun to the Nth Degree, a variety show on niswander rockettheater.com.
Debra Hader Ross BA lives in Olathe, Kan., with her husband, John, and their two children, Patrick and Katye. Debra and John spent 20 years helping establish the Indian Creek Community Church. Debra is now president of a charity to aid the Christian Sudanese people of south Sudan called JumpStart Sudan. They have raised funds to build a clinic in Akon but continue to need support to keep the clinic supplied with resources. Vicki (Shafer) Ratliff BA writes that her son, Tyler, has returned from his second tour in Iraq with the U.S. Air Force. Her son, Drew, is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina in Asheville. Her husband, Keith, is an administrator/instructor at Central Piedmont Community College. Vicki is in her 27th year as a secondary teacher, her 21st in the state of North Carolina. She writes, “I have enjoyed the teaching profession and have won some teaching awards, but I am looking forward to starting something different when I retire!”

Sterling Evans BA has authored a book Bound in Twine: The History and Ecology of the Henequen-Wheat Complex for Mexico and the American and Canadian Plains, 1880-1950. He is a professor at Brandon University in Canada.
Debbie (Davis) Morton BA was voted Eighth Grade Teacher of the Year at Salem Junior High School for the 2006-2007 school year. She writes, “I was thrilled to receive this award, but since I moved to ninth grade this year and have the same students, I think that perhaps they wanted to stay in my good graces for this year!”

Deb (Ferguson) Gillum ASN has been named the associate dean of nursing for Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind. She is working on her PhD from Rush University in Chicago, with her dissertation focusing on cardiovascular risk factors in the Amish. She is also a certified adult and family nurse practitioner. Eric Houchin BA and his wife, Kristi, announce the birth of their third son, Benjamin Josef, on Aug. 1, 2007. He was welcomed home by Jakob, 5, and Samule, 3. Eric and Kristi live in Vicksburg, Mich., where they both practice medicine at Family Doctors of Vicksburg. Eric has recently expanded his practice to include cosmetic laser therapies, botox, and filler injectables. Eric has been recognized as a national lecturer on cosmetic procedures. He is forever indebted to AU for the quality education that the science department provided him. Julie Blauvelt BA — see The College, 1990. Sonja Kuhn BA was promoted in August to Greystone property manager over Greystone at the Woodlands and Greystone at Green Island Hills. This promotion is a 24/7 job but provides terrific opportunity to come in contact with individuals from all areas of life. Sonja writes, “It is amazing how small gestures affect so many lives in ways never thought possible. This is just one step toward the life God has planned for me.”
Raye (Bel) Longwell BA and her husband, Jeff, have been married for 15 years. They have four children. Raye works from home as a self-employed writer for a company she and her husband created called Skits and Stuff. Chris Hoeppner BA and his wife, Kara, have four children. Chris is a managing partner of Legends Sports Bar and owns a business on Ebay called Hoepp’s Sports Collectibles. He is hoping to open a used car lot in 2008.
Kathy (Robbins) Riddle BSN writes that her family has moved to Minnesota. Her husband, Greg, has accepted a job with Cummins Inc. Power Generation in Fridley as the global warranty director. Kathy remains a full-time mom to Nolan, 9, and Natalie, 6. Paul Duke BA and Charity (Donley) Duke BA ’97 announce the birth of their third child, Brianna Marie, on Sept. 12, 2007. Paul works in Indianapolis as a corporate cost accountant. Charity is a stay-at-home mom and has her hands full with Caleb, 6, Sierra, 4, and now Brianna. Paul also teaches a finance class in the county jail to inmates. Paul and Charity live in Noblesville, where they are active youth leaders in their church.
Kelley Wills BA and her boys, Evan, 9, and Gabe, 8, moved to Northwood, Ohio, last spring. Kelly just finished her master’s degree in administration in 2007 and continues to teach social studies at Northwood High School. The rest of her time is spent as the assistant athletic director for the high school and as a soccer/football mom on the sidelines for her two boys.

Jen (Vorhis) Stone BA and her husband, Jerret, welcomed Piper Valentine into their family on Valentine’s Day 2007. She was welcomed home by brothers Gabriel, 5, and Logan, 4. Jen writes, “She is such a happy child, and she is most definitely a ‘daddy’s girl!’” At the end of last school year, Jen was awarded Kettering’s (Ohio) Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award for her work with the gifted education program at Kettering Middle School. She was fortunate enough to lead a group of her former students on a South Pacific trip to Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii. “It was truly a wonderful year, and I cannot wait to see what is in store for us next,” writes Jen. Michelle teaches high school math and sponsors the Student Council. She is also finishing a four-year term on the Alexandria City Council. Abigail is in second grade and Elijah is in kindergarten. Matt is a science teacher and varsity football coach at Westfield High School, and Andee works for Prudential of Indianapolis. Marleen (Marlin) Soliman BA is the acquisition and dubbing manager for SAT-7, Egypt bureau. SAT-7 is a Christian satellite station serving the Middle East and North Africa. She returned to her home country (Egypt) in 2001 and started working with SAT-7. She worked in different positions in the production field. SuzAnne Bradaric BA graduated from Cal State Long Beach with an MFA in theatre management and finished an internship at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, Calif. She spent the fall semester at AU teaching for Dr. Morehead, who was on sabbatical. While at AU, she directed A Streetcar Named Desire and performed in an alumni production of the musical The Last Five Years. Having returned to southern California, she is preparing for the presentation of the alumni production for California audiences at Pacific Art Theatre, a non-profit theatre company SuzAnne founded. She plans to stay in southern California to work in education and outreach or literary management for a regional theatre while continuing to perform and direct. Kami Schwerdtfeger BA completed her PhD in marriage and family therapy from Texas Tech University. In August, she moved to Stillwater, Okla., to begin her academic career as an assistant professor in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at Oklahoma State University.

Priscilla is the resident director at Cincinnati Christian University, where she received her MA in counseling in 2006. She is also a pregnancy counselor and adoption worker at Catholic Social Services. Eric is pursing a master’s degree in health services from Xavier University and working part time at Accenture.

Heather Anderson BA married Remy Levin on May 23, 2007, in an outdoor ceremony at her parents’ home in rural Michigan. Heather is pursuing a career with the National Park Service in Glacier National Park, Montana. Remy is working toward a degree in environmental policy. Kenneth Dodson BA left his position as global vice president of sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical lab and development industry in March 2005. He and Julie (Mathis) Dodson BA purchased a local company comprised of three business units and renamed the corporation True North Ventures, Inc., as representation of the source of direction they seek in their lives. They sold the Firestone Service Center in October 2006, while retaining Fishers Towing and Recovery and True North Risk Management Services, which is a commercial snow removal and salt application risk-management company. Julie writes, “It has been a great blessing and learning opportunity to own and manage this company together. We thank God for how he has guided and used us over the past several years.” Scott Hamilton BA graduated in August from Indiana State University with a master’s degree in mental health counseling. He is a counselor at a community mental health center in Greencastle, Ind.
Angela Kirby BA married Bryan Nixon on Aug. 4, 2007. The couple met in graduate school. Angela graduates in May from Mars Hill Graduate School in Seattle with a master’s degree in counseling psychology.
Laura Markle BA and R.M. Keelan Downton were married in a midnight ceremony on Aug. 4, 2007. Laura began the Master of Divinity program at Princeton Theological Seminary in the fall.

Sider scholar and is being mentored by Dr. Sider through her work at the Sider Center for Christian Faith and Public Policy.

1983 - Al LeMay BA ’80, MDiv and his wife, Linda, are happy to be back home in Youngstown, Ohio, with family and friends. Al writes that they are both suffering from age-related ailments, but they are still active in the Simon Road Church of God and the NEO fellowship.
1987 - Hilda Nauenburg MDiv writes, “After 14 years serving as associate pastor at Glamorgan Church of God in Calgary, Alberta, I have taken a position as chaplain at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary.”
