Gary Robinson is a Professor in the School of Education at Anderson University. Currently, he teaches Secondary Classroom Management and Methods, the Middle School in the United States, and Leadership in Character Education in the undergraduate program. In addition, he supervises practicum placements, student teachers, and has worked with the TIP program. He served as the Director of Graduate Studies in Education from 2003 to 2009.
Prior to his twelve years at AU, Dr. Robinson served for 29 years in the public schools as a high school and middle school teacher, secondary school counselor, department chair, township music coordinator, and elementary principal. His professional experience includes tenure in Wayne and Decatur Townships (Indianapolis), Zionsville, Nashville, Muncie, and Anderson, Indiana.
Dr. Robinson completed the CLSR Principal Leadership Academy in Naples, Florida and the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy. He has presented at the Anderson Public Library on Creating a Customer-Centered Culture, the Indiana Character Education conference on School Climate and Culture, the MWERA conference in Chicago on Mentoring New Teachers, and the Upper Wabash Valley Superintendent’s Custodial Conference on Effective Communication Skills. He has trained in Understanding by Design (UbD) with Grant Wiggins in Chicago and Fish! for Schools with Charthouse Learning in Minneapolis. In 2012 he authored the book, “Ten Lights of Leadership.”
In addition to being a committed educator, Dr. Robinson has been an avid musician throughout his life, working with school, church and community groups. He continues performing with various vocal and instrumental groups and is developing a website at to promote his musical arrangements and compositions.
His wife, Susan, is the Children’s Services Manager at the Anderson Public Library and they are members of the Anderson First United Methodist Church, where he has served as the music leader for their Modern Worship Service and taught the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University. They enjoy bicycling, playing board games, watching movies and visiting with friends and family. They have a daughter, Kyle, and are the proud grandparents of Madeline.
