Curriculum & Instruction Program

AU Master of Education (M.Ed.) Program Highlights

“The M.Ed. for Working Educators”

Anderson University has been preparing teachers at the undergraduate level for more than 50 years. The M.Ed. program demonstrates our interest in each teacher’s advanced quest for success.

The M.Ed. program reflects the mission and purpose of the university, emphasizing traditional Christian values of service, ethics, and caring. The M.Ed. curriculum stresses theory and strategies, classroom management, curriculum development and educational leadership.

The curriculum also examines the ethical, legal and pedagogical aspects of school operations and emphasizes the responsibility of schools to their communities and to the greater society. The program provides an intellectual environment in which students can enhance their ethical decision-making abilities. Students will have the opportunity to examine the latest in instructional development, learning strategies, self-esteem, classroom management, instructional technology and school management.

What M.Ed. students, as teaching professionals, learn in the graduate classroom one day, they apply in their classrooms the next. This rhythm of theory and practical application is characteristic of most of the program.

Working closely with colleagues in a class or cohort group, students implement research that leads to improved teaching methods, sound evaluation and new opportunities to learn, develop, hone and practice skills that naturally invigorate classrooms.

In today’s changing educational climate it only makes sense to be prepared for new opportunities – or, better yet, to create new opportunities.

But, realistically, how does a teacher complete a graduate degree while teaching full time? The M.Ed. program is designed to accommodate the working schedules of full-time educators.

The Indiana Professional Standards Board has approved Anderson University to offer the Master of Education degree as part of the professionalization requirement for the elementary, junior high/middle school or secondary education license.

Anderson University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North central Association. The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

In addition to doctoral or appropriate professional certification, the Anderson University faculty brings practical K-12 teaching experience to the graduate program. The AU faculty embraces diverse perspectives of teaching and learning, having taught or studied on twenty campuses across the county.

The Anderson University faculty is comprised of teachers and school leaders who embrace life-long learning and best practice of teaching and learning. So, teaching school professional through the M.Ed. program is an assignment they take seriously. In addition to doctoral or appropriate professional certification, the Anderson University faculty brings practical K-12 teaching experience to the graduate program.

Because the program is designed to accommodate the needs of the teaching professional, it’s the perfect gift for you – and your students.
