Megan Fetter's MTS Thesis Abstract
This thesis attempts to show how the ideas of justice in the Bible can be related to the political arena of the twentieth-century. It shows whether there is a connection between Christianity and government. It also shows what the results of that connection are and what Christians should do about involvement in government. This will lead to a better understanding of what these ideas mean for Christians looking back on the twentieth-century. It will also give a better understanding of the role of Christianity within the United States for the present day and looking into the future.
In the past Christianity has been the bedfellow of imperialism in some cases, and this thesis will examine the connection between Christianity and New Imperialism or empire. Specifically, it will explore the influence Christianity and New Imperialism have had on each other in the twentieth century within the United States in chapters two and three. It will also address the nature of new imperialism and how it contrasts to the ideas of justice brought forth by the Bible in chapter four. These connections will explore for Christians the implications of power, government, and the free market when combined with the Christian faith culminating in chapter five.
