the draining of creative juices

April 2nd, 2008

Due to an unexpected and unanticipated recent hiatus of the fabulous AU Admissions staff, I have found myself scrounging at the bottom of my creative juices barrel.  Allow me to dictate the scenario through an unneccessarily drawn out verbal illustration.

Aaaahhh, monday morning.  I began my morning rituals much the same as I’m sure you all do.  I like to clothe myself, provide a little bit of sustance for my eating pleasure and occassionally maintain my personal hygiene (I’m more of a noctural bather myself but exceptions can be made).  I throw my backpack over my shoulder like a continental soldier and began the necessary preparations of walking the one block to work.  I had much anticipated hopes of listening to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack which currently resides on the computer I use for work, and if happens chance gave way, a slight and subtle whistle may protrude my lips while I labored.  Much to my dismay, there would be no whistling, no Sweeney Todd and apparently no one there!  All the staff had gone on a staff retreat for monday and tuesday – although I would not find out that the escapade extended to tuesday until I repeated my morning procedures only to realize that again, my preparations had been made in vain with the absence of the staff….and that Sweeney Todd would have to wait another day.  Here is where we arrive at the bottom of the barrel that once cascaded with liquid creativity.  So here it is, a blog written with creative and unnecessary descriptive diction, geared towards the simple illustration that I lack the creative gumption and intriguing subjects necessary to present an adequate blog at this time.  (So I’ll probably do another one soon….like tomorrow ha).

holy cow… senior year!

August 31st, 2006

Headshot

I can’t believe this year is actually here. My roommates and I are all seniors, and we’re dreading graduation!!! We’ve loved our last three years here at AU, and it’s sad to think that everything we do this year will be our last time.  Last move-in day, last square dance, last rush week, and the list goes on and on. But, you’ll hear more about those later!

My name is Maggie Platt, and I’m from Carmel, Indiana (just north of Indianapolis). I am finishing up two majors: Family Science and Psychology. The plan is for me to go on to grad school to get my Masters Degree in Social Work. I was hooked on AU the minute I walked on campus as a high school senior, and I love it even more now.

To be honest, I’m pretty stressed out right now. I’m taking mostly upper division classes for my majors right now, and NOTHING is easy. Also, I work in the Office of Admissions as the campus tour coordinator. Basically, I hire and train all the tour guides and then schedule all of the tours. Since it’s the beginning of the year, we’re in the process of hiring, which takes a lot of time. On top of that, rush is coming up. Rush is by far my favorite week of the year. We have several social clubs on campus, and rush week is when students (sophomores and older) can choose to join. There are tons of crazy activities throughout the week, and it’s sooooooooooooooooo great. BUT, getting ready for rush is proving to be very hectic. I’m president of one of the clubs this year, and I can’t even tell you how many hours of meetings we’ve already been through. And, there are many many many more meetings to come. You’ll get to hear all about rush when it starts in a couple of weeks!

Tomorrow night is the square dance, and I’m pretty pumped for it. I know it sounds so lame, but it’s actually really fun. I’ve gone every year, and everyone gets really into it. There’s a professional caller and everything. Everybody comes out in cowboy or cowgirl gear (I brought my boots and hat just for it!) and dances the night away. It’s hysterical!

That’s it for now!
