When I was just a young boy doing nothing but playing with friends, eating, and sleeping (man those were the days), we used to have a little saying/rule/indicator/something or other that my babysitter taught us. When winter was starting to end, she always would remind us that you knew the weather was getting nice when you saw robins! So each year we would search the yards looking for robins so that we could know that spring was coming!!!
This rule she taught us always worked then, but now the student has become the teacher (yes that’s me, and I am actually going to teach you something). Here at AU just a few days ago I saw the Frisbees come out. People hanging out in the valley in the middle of the day just tossing the bees. It was awesome, and you know why people were out? Because the weather was nice. Ever since that day last week that I saw the Frisbees flying in the air, the weather has been fabulous. No longer do I look for the birds; I look for the bees.
This is the new sign of good weather. The bees. So when the Frisbees come out, you know the good weather is coming and the best part is that I swear people are just soooo much happier when the weather is nice. It makes for a great time. People eating outside, people working out (rather than working in. ha ha), grass is getting green, you can hear those birds a chirpin, and you can taste the excitement of spring!!!
Yay for nice weather.
Peace.

So many of you may have heard about all the wonderful additions that AU is making to its campus. AU is going to spend millions of dollars constructing a new student center, a new larger performing arts center, a telecommunication building and making improvements to the dorms. What these people of power forgot to tell you is that they will be making changes in scenery.
This last week some of the administrators here at AU (along with the help of a butt-load of rain) added a lake and a river. Hopefully Lake Executive and University River will add to the beautifulness of campus. If you missed the new additions I will tell you that Lake Executive is located directly across from Dunn Hall and actually flows over the top of Executive Drive. University River runs east/west along University Drive and flows out of Executive Lake.

(Executive Lake, Pictured here)
There are undoubtedly positives and negatives alike about these new aqueous additions. On a positive note, the water adds to the already wonderful scenery, and I believe it is quite aesthetic. Also, it would be fun on a hot day to put on some trunks and head to the lake. On the other hand, crossing University River to get to class is not that fun, and don’t really enjoy getting my jeans wet. But, this is one reason why we are fortunate that next year’s student body president, Jess Smith, has said he intends on implementing a fairy system that will help students cross on their way to class. Until then though, students will either need rain boots or row boats.
I think overall the additions to campus are good. Although, the water only appears when it rains hard. So if you get the chance, check it out, but be prepared.
I think its getting warm.
Yay!
Zach

Last week was spring break, and it was absolutely incredible! One of my good friends from here at AU and I went out to California to spend time with friends and family. It’s amazing how a week of sunshine and palm trees can really clear your mind and get you ready for the last six weeks of school! The craziest part of my vacation happened last Monday. I woke up to the sound of my cell phone ringing unexpectedly (granted… it was way late in the morning, so I should have already been up! But, it’s vacation!) It was my friend Jonathan, telling me that he and two other guys were going to be in L.A. for the night (they were roadtripping all around the country) and they needed a place to stay. So, Amanda and I checked with her aunt and uncle (who we were staying with), and we welcomed the guys into their home for the evening. It was so random, but a lot of fun.

(Green grass!!)

(Road trippers)
The rest of the trip was fun too, but none of the things we did even came close to being as great as just getting to sleep in and be lazy. And, it’s a good thing I had that rest, because these coming weeks are jam packed with so much to get done! This Friday is the Booster/Alacritas lock in, the next weekend I’m going to a friend’s wedding, then we have the Alacritas Easter Egg Hunt with kids from a local day care, then Easter weekend with family, then the leadership reception, then a HUGE event that my social club is organizing to raise awareness about AIDS, then the next week I have a big presentation for a psych class and an end of the year banquet for my club, then it’s finals and graduation! WHOA. I know it’s going to go by so fast… and that totally freaks me out!

Welcome back everyone! (fyi I am a lot tanner now than I was in that picture) I am back on campus now and it’s great to see everyone. Unfortunately, today was crummy and rainy, ugh! I really hope the weather does get better. I just got back from Florida and the weather was AWESOME!!! And now I have to deal with this rainy cold stuff, ugh, come on Indiana I know you can do better than this!
Anyway to my story; two of my friends from high school traversed the motherland down to Florida. We got tons of sun and just hung out on the beaches; it was so soo soooo nice! We were having a great time, but then one night we wanted to go out to the beach. You see, we stayed in a cheap place not on the beach so we had to drive a mile to the beach and park. We hung out on the beach for a few hours and then when we were ready to go I couldn’t find my car keys. Uh oh good one Zach, lose your keys on the beach. So we got out our cell phones and searched the beach where we had been all 15 miles (ok maybe not that much). An hour later we gave up and called a friend to come pick us up.
After not sleeping well (let it be known that my dorm key was on there too, a $50 dollar value I believe), I got up the next morning and went back to the beach with a good friend to look for my keys. After about an hour of searching I came across a tiny plastic thingy sticking out of the sand. What is that? Holy cow its my Anderson University Raven logo keychain!!! And my keys attached to it. People every bit of my keys were buried in the sand other than that cute little raven.
So that’s just one way we know that AU is watching out for us!
Thank the Raven!!!
I hope everyone had a great break!!!
Zach
