Can freshman have automobiles on campus?
Anderson University is a "walking" campus, and though not necessary, all students may have vehicles on campus. Specific parking areas are provided for freshmen.
- Do AU students have curfew hours?
At AU, we have self-regulating hours. We encourage students to be responsible in their choices and come in at a reasonable hour. When the residence hall staff becomes aware that a student is not making positive choices in this area, a staff member will talk with the student.
- Are AU students required to live on campus?
We are a residential campus and believe the campus experience is a valuable part of the educational experience. Students are required to live in campus housing if they have earned fewer than 88 hours, are registered as a full-time student, are single, are not living with their parents or guardian, and will not be 22 years old by the end of semester II.
Seniors and part-time students may live off campus, but Anderson University reserves the right to require any student, regardless of class standing or number of hours enrolled, to live in AU housing.
- Is AU a safe campus for students?
Historically, AU is a very safe campus. Our security personnel are experienced police officers and are certified emergency medical technicians. Security issues are dealt with quickly, with the appropriate notification to the campus community. We have emergency phones, escort services, vehicle assistance, and residence hall security checks throughout the evenings. The university conducts safety drills, publishes weekly safety concern updates in the campus newspaper, contacts parents when needed, and calls on city police for coverage and assistance.
- What is AU’s policy on alcohol and illegal drugs?
Our campus is committed to being a drug-free and alcohol-free campus. Purchasing, possessing or using alcohol or other drugs is prohibited both on and off campus. Individuals who violate this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
- Do AU residence halls have open house hours?
Yes, the hours are Tuesday and Thursday 6-10 p.m., Friday 5pm-Midnight, Saturday 1pm-Midnight, and Sunday 3-6 p.m. Room doors must remain open when visitors of the opposite sex are in the room.
- Do the residence halls have "quiet hours"?
Quiet hours are generally 10 p.m.-7 a.m., though these may be extended by the agreement of hall or floor residents. All other times should be considered courtesy hours, during which residents are considerate of each other.
- What is the policy on sexual misconduct?
Sexual misconduct is any violation of campus standards related to sexual behavior, including premarital sexual relations and homosexual behavior. Sexual misconduct may include cohabitation, overnight visitation with someone of the opposite sex, or other sexual conduct not believed to be in keeping with university standards.
Pregnancy outside of marriage is the result of sexual misconduct and is a violation of campus standards. Students violating campus standards related to sexual misconduct are subject to disciplinary action, and are usually required to undergo counseling. Parents are informed when pregnancy outside of marriage is known.
- What opportunities exist for spiritual growth?
Our mission as an institution grows from our faith. Student-led campus ministries include an AIDS ministry, Advocacy + Awareness, Anam Cara (connecting students with mentors), a homeless ministry, Vision/Revision (an opportunity to express your faith through the arts), work camps, Study Buddies, prayer ministry, reading circles, kids ministry, nursing home visits, and prison mentoring for juveniles. Programs in the residence halls also meet spiritual needs and speak to growth of body, mind and spirit. Chapel/Convocation is scheduled twice a week and attendance is required of all full-time students. The overall emphasis on our campus is to integrate faith and learning.
For more information about other spiritual opportunities at AU, visit Chapel at AU or Tri-S.
- Are there activities on the weekend?
Yes! Each weekend brings a variety of events. The Campus Activities Board, resident assistants, interest clubs, social clubs, and the Campus Ministries staff plan opportunities for service, learning or just plain fun. Students often plan spontaneous group activities themselves. Students can get involved in the AU community in a lot of ways.
