AU prepares to welcome new students

orientation.jpgAU is preparing to welcome new students to campus from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3 as a part of New Student Orientation. The campus theme this year is, “Shalom: God. Neighbor. Earth.”

2007 Move-in Day at AU

According to Dean Branson, director of student programs, the purpose of new student orientation is “to provide new students and their parents with a structured, comprehensive introduction to opportunities at Anderson University, to assist new students in their transition to the institution, and to integrate them into the life of the institution. We try to plan a variety of activities throughout the Orientation weekend that will allow new students to meet other students, faculty, and staff as well as begin to acclimate to their surroundings.”

Alumni Office partners with Harris Connect on directory project

jael.jpg US News and World Report has again ranked Anderson University among the best universities in the Midwest offering master’s level degree programs. Institutions in this category offer a full range of both undergraduate and master’s level degree programs. The magazine’s 2008 guide to “America’s Best Colleges” marks the fourth consecutive year that Anderson University has been listed among the best in its class.

AU dedicates Flagship Center

DSC2609 copy small.jpgHundreds gathered this morning to dedicate the Anderson University Flagship Center, connected to the Flagship Enterprise Center. The facility houses the Falls School of Business residential MBA (RMBA) program.

Speaking at the ceremony were AU president, James Edwards; AU board chair, Lou Gerig; President and CEO of the Flagship Enterprise Center, Charles Staley; Purdue’s College of Technology dean, Denis Depew; AU’s Conference and Performance Events director, Cheryl Shank; AU School of Adult Learning dean, Aleza Beverly; Falls School of Business dean, Terry Truitt; and RMBA student, Anne Gunn. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, RMBA students gave tours of the building, and refreshments were served in the Professional Development Center.

“The Anderson University Flagship Center now completes a strategic plan that brings the best of this university to the major corridor of development and at the very doorway to our community,” said Edwards.

AU to broadcast more than 60 fall sports events

athletics1.jpgAnderson University will once again partner with Stretch Internet and WQME 98.7 FM to broadcast Raven sporting events during the 2007-08 year. During the fall, more than 60 events will be carried live on the internet, including Dave Edwards Talk’n Sports show on Saturday mornings.

Campus community mourns loss of student Keren Berrios

Berrios.jpgThe university community received word last Friday, August 3, that Keren Berrios, an Anderson University student from El Salvador, was involved in a serious car accident. She was transported to Saint John’s Health System in Anderson before being airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She passed away on Sunday, August 5.

“Keren was a vibrant part of our university community, one whom we seemed to know personally from the first day she arrived on the campus,” said Dr. James L. Edwards, president of Anderson University.” We have loved her warm spirit, generous friendship and inviting smile. We are in deep sorrow with all our students, staff and faculty, and will hold her family in our love and prayers. Keren Berrios is a student whom we will never forget. We thank God for all the days we had to share in her remarkable and dedicated life.”

Tony Holloway succeeds father as Raven softball coach

AU professor, Frank Pianki, to run 50-mile ultra-marathon

In the past nine months, Frank Pianki, the director of academics for the Residential MBA program, has run three marathons, three half-marathons, two adventure races, two triathlons, and a 10-mile trail run. Pianki ran his first marathon in 2004. Now he can’t stop running.

This September Pianki, age 53, will run a 50-mile ultra-marathon.
