School of Ed teacher reports 98% job placement for teaching grads

Teacher.jpgThe Anderson University School of Education recently reported that more than 98 percent of student teachers who graduated in May 2007 have found employment. The job placement percentage reflects undergraduate students studying through the School of Education and students in Teach for Indiana Program (TIP) program that provides a full time 10-month alternative licensing program for candidates with a baccalaureate degree who would like to teach elementary (K-5) or secondary (6-12) students.

Panel discusses faith and politics during Banned Book Week

moderator.jpgAnderson University will be hosting two panel discussion sessions this week on banned books in the Nicholson Library as a part of Banned Book Week.

“The Panel Discussions during Banned Books Week focus on two areas—the American Constitution and religion—both of which touch the lives of each and everyone of us today,” said Janet Brewer, Director of Nicholson Library. “I think we tend to take the freedoms we enjoy for granted, and as a part of an academic community, it’s important for us to discuss the intersection between what we read, or watch in a movie or listen to on our iPods, and these freedoms.”

Men’s 4th at Franklin fall golf invitational

Faith and family: Sources of happiness for AU students

jasmine.jpgJasmine Lee, 18, and her two younger sisters would fight all the time when she still lived at home, but when it came to the love and compassion the sisters had for each other, they would do anything for each other.

“We’ve had to stick kind of close because there’s no immediate family out here,” the Anderson University student said.

Not only are they close to each other and their parents, but Lee said that spending time with her family makes her a happier person.

AU alumnus Steven Curtis Chapman in concert Oct. 6

Freshman Profile: Jacqueline Burgher

thumb.jpgJacqueline Burgher glanced around Mocha Joe’s, observing her surroundings for a moment. “No other school I looked at had the sense of community that AU does,” she said finally. “AU has a feel, an atmosphere.”

Jacqueline is a freshman at AU this year from Butte, Mont. Her sister Laura, a junior education major, played a role in Jacqueline coming to AU. “Since Laura left two years ago, I realized how much I want to be near her, ” explained Jacqueline.

First day at AU kicks off with prayer, speeches

lee.jpgAnderson University sophomore Jordan Mathis didn’t have the time Tuesday morning to stop and chat. That’s because it was the first day of classes, and he was in a hurry to get there.

“It’s great to be back; I’m excited,” said Mathis, 19, as he walked briskly across campus. “I love it here.”

The entire campus was buzzing — alarm clocks could be heard emanating from dorm rooms — with activity Tuesday morning, as students headed to class for the first time this academic year.

AU hosts Dr. Kinlaw during 2007 Newell Lecture

DrKinlaw.jpgAnderson University will welcome Dr. Dennis Kinlaw, founder of the Francis Asbury Society and former president of Asbury College, September 17-18 for the 2007 Newell Lecture. The title of the 2007 Newell Lecture is “The Christian Understanding of Personhood.” The lectures will begin both days at 9 a.m. and will be conducted in Miller Chapel within the School of Theology.

The schedule for the 2007 Newell Lecture is the following:

SEPTEMBER 17:
9 to 9:50 am: “The Biblical Story”
10 to 10:50 am: “The History Account”
11 a.m. to 12 noon-Q & A Session

SEPTEMBER 18:
9 to 9:50 am: “How this Affects my Relationship with God”
10 to 10:50 am: “How this Affects Our Relationships with One Another”
11 a.m. to 1 noon-Q & A Session
