Hudson, Kemple and AU women’s track team honored

Anderson University’s Sean Hudson and Gwen Kemple have been named as two of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Men’s and Women’s 2008 Division III Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Athletes of the Year, respectively.

The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.

In addition to Hudson and Kemple, the AU women’s track and field team was recognized as a 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team for the 2008 season.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements. To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average.

The Raven team had a cumulative GPA of 3.186 for the 2008 season.

AU offers campers lessons on music world

For the first time, Anderson University is hosting a summer camp for teenagers considering careers in the music industry.

The camp, an offshoot of the university’s student-run recording label Orangehaus Music, offers campers early exposure to sound engineering, music marketing and other skills not usually covered outside of a recording label office or college class.

AU sponsors OrangeHaus Music Business Camp

Anderson University will sponsor the OrangeHaus Music Business Camp, July 15-19. The camp will allow students to have one-on-one interactions with some of the best talent in the Christian music business industry. The OrangeHaus Music Business Camp is designed for high school students, ages 14-18. The experience will help students discover what it takes to be a working professional in the field of music business. Developed by the music business faculty at Anderson University, the summer program offers 3 and a half days of classes in record production, artist development, songwriting, and music marketing.

Taught on the Anderson University campus, instructors are award-winning producers, engineers, songwriters, artist managers, booking agents, and label execs responsible for the success of artists such as Switchfoot, Newsboys, David Crowder Band, Nichole Nordeman, Mat Kearney, MercyMe, Audio Adrenaline, and Israel Houghton.

Instructors during the OrangeHaus Music Business Camp include Charlie Peacock, a Grammy-winning producer who was awarded “Producer of the Year” three times at the GMA Dove Awards; Sam Chappell, Senior Vice President of Business Affairs & Development at Integrity Music Media; Richie Biggs, Mastering Engineer at Runway Network in Nashville who has numerous engineering credits that include Switchfoot, Newsboys, Phil Keaggy, and Petra.

Also instructing is Dr. Rebecca Chappell, Professor of Music at Anderson University where she teaches music business and woodwinds as well as supervises the music business internship program; Dr. Mark Murray, Professor of Music at Anderson University who teaches music business and trumpet; and James Hodgin, owner and artist manager for Dryve Artist Management in Nashville who represents Christian artists such as Thousand Foot Krutch, Bethany Dillon, Shawn McDonald, and Dave Barnes

Taylor named Athletic Director for Anderson University

Marcie Taylor named Athletic Director for Anderson UniversityAnderson University has named Marcie Taylor as the new athletic director. Taylor replaces Michael Zapolski, who has served as athletic director since 2003. Taylor has worked as associate athletic director of Anderson University since 2005.

“Marcie Taylor brings devotion to athletes, coaches and programs, and to the wider mission of Anderson University,” said Dr. James L. Edwards, president of Anderson University. “Over these years as a teacher and coach, she has equipped herself to take on this assignment and to move our intercollegiate athletic programs to greater successes. We are delighted to have her leadership in this major institutional role.”
