AU administrative offices close for holidays

Candles1.gifAnderson University administrative offices will be closed to observe the Christmas and New Year’s holidays beginning Tuesday, December 23, at 5 p.m. and will re-open on Monday, January 5, 2008. Campus security officers will maintain normal hours during the extended holiday.

The Development Office will be open December 29, 30 and December 31 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. to accept year-end contributions. Persons desiring to access the AU Development office during this time will need to enter Decker Hall through the northwest door of the building breezeway. Directional signs will be posted for visitors. The Development office is located on the second floor of Decker Hall. Please call the Development office at 765-641-4053 or 1-800-421-1025 for more detailed information.

Soldier can’t camouflage his love of Christmas

I can’t deny it, I won’t deny it and you can’t change my mind: I love Christmas.

I’m a fan of holidays in general — most mean either presents, great food or knocking on strangers’ doors for candy — all good things in my book. But, wow, do I love Christmas!

AU alum named Vanderbilt’s vice chancellor for public affairs

Beth Fortune, a former gubernatorial press secretary and political reporter, has been named Vanderbilt University’s vice chancellor for public affairs, a position she has held on an interim basis for the past six months, Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos announced Wednesday.

RMBA student gains valuable experience at Riley Hospital

Ben is a student in the Residential MBA program at Anderson University. For his internship with the RMBA program, Ben works as a quality consultant at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.

Nursing Major Interned at Mayo Clinic

As a young girl, Sarah Walker had visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. She knew early on it was a place she belonged and wanted to work at in the future. For Sarah, that dream became reality when she was one of 140 accepted out of 600 applicants to serve as a Summer III nursing intern.

AU Recognized as a Leader of Educational Excellence

Anderson University has received the designation “College of Distinction” in the newly-released 2008-2009 edition of Colleges of Distinction. Unlike traditional numeric-based college guidebooks, this book recognizes and appeals to students’ unique interests, realizing what may be “the best” college for one student, may be vastly different than the best for another.

Raven fall athletes named Academic All-HCAC

Anderson University has 19 student-athletes that have been named Academic All-Conference by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the 2008 fall season.

Anderson finished with the third most student-athletes on the list behind Rose-Hulman (36) and Mt. St. Joseph (20). Franklin also had 19 student-athletes honored.

The women’s soccer team and women’s tennis team had the most honorees with four each. Carlie Clark, Katie Lopolito, Kelsey Alcorn and Mary Schueneman represented the soccer team while Holly Miller, Katie Porter, Jessie Rigby and Emily Thompson were from the tennis squad.

They were followed by volleyball (Caitlin Morency, Jessica Berlin, Tara Denham) and football (Jake Duke, Zach Duke, Jordan Carlson) teams with three each.

Dane Masuda and Stephen Harkleroad were from the men’s soccer team; Mollie Ringer and Abigail Ingalls represented women’s cross country and Carrie Thomas was on the women’s golf team.

To make the team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, play on the varsity squad and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

‘Candles and Carols’ lights up the night

When members of the Anderson University Wind Ensemble gather to practice for the annual “Candles and Carols” concert, they are reminded many times about one element of their performance: Being on TV.

“We spend a lot of time talking about that experience,” said Susan Taylor, director of bands at Anderson University.
