AU alum Lou Gerig to be inducted into The Indiana Academy

AU alum Lou Gerig will be inducted with six new members into The Indiana Academy at its annual dinner and symposium on Monday, June 1, 2009, in Indianapolis. This year’s honorees, the thirty-ninth group so selected, will be recognized by the Independent Colleges of Indiana for their lifetime of achievement and contributions to the cultural, scientific, literary, civic, religious, and educational development of Indiana. Anderson, Purdue universities partner for graduate degree program

Starting this fall, Anderson and Purdue universities will jointly offer students the chance to earn two master’s degrees at the same time. The degree program will allow students to earn, in a concurrent manner, a master of business administration from the Anderson University Falls School of Business and a master of science in technology from Purdue’s College of Technology.

Flagship hosts first Grow Conference

Businesses from a 30-mile radius sent representatives to the Flagship Enterprise Center on Thursday for the center’s first Grow Conference, which presented tools for businesses to survive during an economic drought.

The Grow Conference featured speakers, ranging from Anderson University Falls School of Business Dean Terry Truitt to Continental Inc. owner Judy Nagengast, and workshops on lean operations and quality control. Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman was the keynote speaker during lunch at the conference.

Recent AU grad headed for Honduras

Erica Clampitt’s first job out of college will be on an island of the Caribbean coast of Honduras. A recent graduate from Anderson University, Clampitt will write for World Gospel Mission. She is excited to do mission work while using the skills she learned as a Mass Communications - Public Relations major.

Hazen, Jarrett named to All-HCAC baseball team

baseball2Anderson University juniors Chris Jarrett and Jeremy Hazen have been named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference 1st Team on Wednesday.

Hazen led the Ravens with a .436 average to go with 44 runs, 11 doubles, 13 home runs, 49 RBI, 117 total bases and a .785 slugging percentage.

Jarrett led the Ravens with 17 doubles and 118 total bases  while hitting .404 with 58 runs, five triples, eight home runs, 30 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Jarrett also broke the career record for triples this season and has 23 over his three years.

Named to the second team were senior Brad Lantz, junior Cody Young and sophomore Brady Roundtree.

Young batted .375 with 37 runs, 14 doubles, a team-high eight triples, eight home runs, 45 RBI, 114 total bases and 24 stolen bases. Roundtree hit .282 with 10 doubles, two home runs, 20 RBI and Lantz .266 with seven doubles, two home runs and 24 RBI.

Honorable mention selectees were sophomore Kyle Dillon (5-5, 6.86 ERA, 43 K), junior Aaron Vogel (4-3, 4.50 ERA, 28 K), sophomore David Addington (.283, 5 2B, 2 HR) and freshman Michael Tucker (.325, 11 2B, 8 HR, 31 RBI).

AU finished the season 22-18 overall and 12-9 in the HCAC.

Carl and Carolyn Caldwell to teach in Iraq

As Carl and Carolyn Caldwell prepare for a move to the other side of the world, they plan to take with them an English Book of Common Prayer, a Bible and hair care tips.

The couple is retiring from Anderson University; he as vice president of academic affairs and dean of the college, she as an accounting professor with the Falls School of Business.

Anderson University graduates largest class in history

Wearing the traditional black caps and gowns, the 2009 class of Anderson University graduates lined up on the school’s campus Saturday, eager to receive their diplomas, but somewhat anxious about their job prospects amid a shaky economy.
